By Freaky Chakra •

He was basketball coach in Doha. Gulf Times carried his story.

Just to say this was no scam. I am wellwisher his...
but I am sure soon we will solve his problem...

responses my as well know my mother didnt have a prostate gland it was colon cancer and it was a mistake by the paper.
the proofreader must be sleepy...
Just read the Gulf Times story.
Wondering where his mother got her prostate gland from? It is a male sex gland, no?
At any rate, I think he needs to get a speedboat to take him to Bahrain and then fly back the US from there.

Since Allah has given me a brain, it would seem like a sin not to use it.
any updates yet?
Ballinkq needs a job...so anyone who could give him any leads would be great :-)
There are people who have helped in more ways then they even know i that i am thankful for and you never have to worry about me loosing my faith that God will continue to help and guide me through this..... Adey believe me when I tell you that i have sought every possible avenue with the bank.I was at that office every other day and the only advice or maybe i should say SOLUTION was to 1- have a Qatari as a guarantor or 2- pay the loan back.. Those were the options given to me from all the people i delt with in the bank.
Still had the trouble?? Damn! What's wrong with this place?? Brits have a problem with RP and more of it??

Also when you travel abroad from a 'developed' nation make sure you have a large safety net for whatever eventuality... at the end of the day we are responsible for ourselves.
And we have the means QL - newspapers etc to voice our plight.
There are many many people from non-developed nations who have to leave their country for fear of persecution/starvation.
Look at all the poor sods here getting 600QR a month.... what can they do?
Just think hard before you take out any kind of loan outside your own country.... you could be signing your own jail ticket.
the newspaper stated it is just me and my older sister and she has done as much as she can despite the situation that she is going through.
or Father? Are any in your family able to help you out?

that your generosity turned out to be a burden for you. If you know of any other way i am all ears.
I would volunteer to be your guarantor at the Commercial Bank, but I did that 2 years back and I am still paying off the loan - since who I helped abandoned my helping hand.
There must be another way to solve this problem.
ballinkg's picture
ballinkg said PM.... yes i have sent my resume ...
to the American colleges here to see if they were in
need but those positions were filled. And I didnt catch that and yes i will speak to the papers..As far as my story being true they did the research with me and they went out on their own with the information i gave them to validate my story.
D???I mean the Half circle near the basket hoop, Also the NBA court is a little bigger than the international one is'nt it?
I once watched a movie "the pursuit of happyness". It's about Chris Gardner. I don't know whether this story is based on fact or fiction. But it was very inspiring. This man Chris went through very hard times, but in the end he pull through all his hardships and managed to get a good job. I think ballinkg needs to watch this film and draw inspiration from the character of Chris Gardner.
'credit crunch' (hate that buzzword term) - could not a relative get a secured loan? Or secure employment in the US and ask the employer for an advance? (I don't know if that is practical in your line of work).
no that didn't sound condescending - just trying to explore all avenues - but you have probably thought of them before anyways.
:)
Peace

mean by the "D"????? being smaller
sound condescending to you but have you seen or heard the problems that are going on with the economy in the states now. It would almost be impossible to get a bank loan from the states because for 1-i am not employed there and 2- Many of the banks ( the one's that have not ) closed are not giving personal loans at this time because they two are waiting to see what is going to happen with the economy.
Is the size of the D smaller too. I heard it is bigger at the NBA.
because what i did to help my mom i will be rewarded from the Lord one day.. As for my skin color even though i know that it is a issue still in today's society especially in the states and maybe even here I feel it could be a possibility but i try not to look at it that way. I guess its just me trying to keep a open mind.
get a bank loan from the US to pay off the Qatari one?

I was just curious.
I feel sorry for the guy, because he tried to do the best for his mother, for which he should be applauded and the Lord will reward him.
However, he was naive and should be helped by the US embassy. I am sure that if they wanted , they could work out a solution with the bank. I also wonder whether the embassy or the bank would have treated him differently if he was not black.
basketball is different here. It is alot more difficult here coaching because of the rules you have to follow each year..
that was a way to put a smile on everyone's face today.
Is the standard of basketball in Qatar good? I mean compared to US how different is coaching in Qatar?
Ha Ha Ha!! BallinKg, I see you are following the QL forums recently. I read it too (1 riyal GF). That was a good read wasn't it?
As Abu said - what bank are you with? Do they have international partners?

i wish i knew how to help you but one thing for sure i can say, there are pple out there who have shown their concerns for you and I pray that the LORD may guide you and help you during this distress hours of your need. hang on there..KEEP THE FAITH..
that i have actually gone to the higher officialsi am not going to state names or organization name s because i dont wanna be the new 1 riyal man(lol) stating peoples and family names. But i have gone to the higher powers but have not heard anything from there in about 4 months now and yes i have followed up consistently but with no avail from them yet.
are a very nice person also after meeting you at the Iftar distributing event. i had alot of fun meeting the people that i did and no I didnt say anything about my situation because it wasnt the time or place. It was a time to help others and that was what i was there for.
No there is'nt. No company can hire him because he does'nt have passport on him. Only some institute or clubs may hire him.
is everyone sleeping????
check your PM...
i get what u said...if he is in trouble paying back the loan and cant find a way out, what are the chances for him to survive if he doesnt have a job now???isnt there any other company who can hire him on the basis of his experiences???
I think Ballinkq may have to broaden his field a bit if there are no openings for a basketballcoach currently in Qatar. Then he may find a lot of jobs in qatar. If he has coaching experiance in basketball, he can surely apply for other jobs like gym instructor, Physical training in schools and colleges etc. Has he posted in any classified under situation wanted. May be some QL'rs may help in finding out a job.
didnt mean to disturb the chain discussion...
as per your say, there are no chances at all for me to work in qatar in schools or other related fields if i dont have a masters and experience, rite? to be honest, i wont be doing masters. have 2 start working from nex year.k,wat are the critetias needed mostly in qatar job system??
welcome to the twilight zone
the original contract i signed was not respected either...on various issues...
what are you going to do about it?
a)shut up and put up
b) leave
As for you - you need:
a) experience in your field
b) a master's degree
Banl loans are the responsibility of the applicant ONLY. A company will simply support an application by confirming his status as an employee but they will not act as Gaurantor. This guy needs to go to his bank and discuss just how he can repay the loan with no work. If the bank is International they can easily issue him with a letter confirming that he can repay the loan when he returns to the USA - that would satisfy the Authorities here. If the guy needs cash to pay his immediate expences and his flight home surely the QL crowd can raise it?
heard education out there is quiet expensive..have hand full of Arab friends here in delhi...so how as counsellor can i offer my service and ihs the pay package enough for a frehman to survive in qatar??

yap..very true..but dont get it..how can the sponsor not be held responsible for the trouble this guy has fallen into???wasnt there an agreement between them?? sorry, m not to clear with the issue here..
Ah, there's another side to marhabtain... who knew?
Poor guy but just why is it that Expats think they are 'safe ' enough to take bank loans in this 'here today and gone tomorrow ' society ! This chap had good reason to borrow but I think its crazy to take a loan for any other reason than that sort! Even a car loan is dangerous! I Suppose ur risk is less if u work for one of the BIG companies here but all over the Gulf there are private date pickers who become 'businessmen 'of the worst type. Ask around your own expat group!! It does happen and it COULD happen to YOU!!! Azi - if u need any help from me I seriously would do so okay. Serious subjects with me never end in Gin and Yippeee or Hic okay!
i have a major in sociology and counselling diploma from an institute of natural healing from uk which entitles me to become professionally a counsellor independently but i wish to experience in the field max 5 years n i find more challenging to work cross culturally apart from my own domain...i have lots of arab friends and it some how intrigues me to work in their community and learn more of their culture and understand.how about that?? what do you teach
i wish i could give you more info but i dont know any counseling job here in Qatar... just hang on here in QL, somebody might give you some info in the future
hows life in qatar?? especially for single woman in general and as an asian???
i think this thread is about helping this chap...
why dont you start a new thread so people dont get confused?
this is sad
Generally may advice would be (but not for this gentleman) do NOT get a bank loan you cant pay
people get a loan for a car
lose the job
cant pay the loan
are stuck
I drive a garden shed on wheels... but its about making sure i am not trapped...
is that wat really happens in qatar???i am an asian n am m looking forward to work in qatar with women n children as a counsellor...
i guess it's how it is here... survival of the fittest...
well, i wont be sponsored coz i m independently looking for a job opening there in qatar...so, how about in that case, how should i go about it and i really want to work there.what do u do there, if i may ask?
are you staying in qatar??was thinking if you could tell me the job prospect for a counsellor in qatar..heard ther aint much of counselling job there..was thinking in schools as an education counsellor..can u advice??would appreciate if you could or any1 out there who can..
is qatar the right place to start my career as a counsellor?? let me know...
no we dont. we first crucify them and push them to the brink of suicide, and then throw them a rope.
you all seem to really give a realty info to the pple who need help//great jobs..

You are right, This country is dangerous, and more so for Asians. The same misfortune befalls so many Asian workers here. But nobody thinks its a problem for them. When a US citizen has trouble with his employer it is on the Gulf-times. But an Asian being ill-treated by his sponsor or a standoff with his employer draws no attention. They get the same newspaper coverage after being unjustly whipped by police in Doha streets.
I'm sorry he is going through a tough time, especially in Qatar.
Greentea, that's not really the function of the Embassy, to provide jobs for Americans who are out of work. They can give him access to resources and legal information, but they make it clear that US citizens are subject to the laws of the country, and this is a legal matter.
I feel for the guy, and I hope there is someone who will take an interest in his plight and provide him with a job.
I'm just clarifying that it's not the responsibility of the Embassy.
Where is his sponsor in all of this???
Anyway you can ask for, and get, special clemancy from the Emir or someone else in the ruling family? Or anyone here do it on his behalf?
As it is the bank will never get the money repaid so they have nothing to lose letting you leave the country in order to gain employment.
There must be some sort of personal employment number you have so that the US federal government can track the tax you owe on any work you do. Give this to the authorities and get them to put a stop on a % of your future earnings and have it direstlt paid in to your Qatar bank account before it comes to you - called a Direct Debit or Standing Order in the UK, don't know what they are called in the States.
I know this sounds logical, and that doesn't always work here, sorry if you have already been down this route.

the guys is not asking for money... he's actually looking for work...
some people have been rude to him in the other thread... hope they get to read this...
for sure there will be jobs even odd ones in the embassy...
im not talking about shortcuts, im talking about long term instead of keeping him jobless each day not knowing when to start or where to get money to pay for his debts
Stories like ballinkg and others like the one with this guy...
http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=245472&version=1&template_id=57&parent_id=56
makes me think that this country can be dangerous if you are not cautious with the sponsor you choose to stay here...
War looking for peace,
is like fornication looking for virginity.
Greentea, the guy owes a lot of money and can't leave the country until he pays his debts.
The US Embassy can't pay his debts for him, nor can they change the laws of the country to help him leave.
i hope all the people who being so "NICE" to his thread last time will swallow their words now...

He didn't even mentioned his problem...me and ballinkq are kinda in the same boat, I guess :-(
I'll see and some people if they can help out...
Don't worry BALLINKQ, we're here for you...
he's there in the Iftar distribution right? i saw his name in the list of people casanova thanked in participating...
hope he'll get through this soon...
Ballinkq is a swell guy and I hope he would be able to solve his problems.
Anyway, SPEED is working on it right now...I'll see what I could do too...
i have always thought the US Embassy is here to help their citizens... they even have advisory in their website for their citizens to contact them... how come this one citizen is still in distress???
