How did Qatar lose to Uzbekistan? Why?

Home team Qatar’s football chances of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup was shattered after it bowed to Uzbekistan 1- 0 at the jam-packed Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha yesterday, October 16, 2012. “How and why did this happen?” asked many Doha fans in disbelief.

The single winning goal that capped the Uzbeks’ first Group ‘A’ win and three crucial points was delivered by 25-year-old Sanzhar Atkhamovich Tursunov, who plays professionally for the Russian club ‘FC Alania Vladikavkaz’.

The 13th minute goal that finally broke Qatar’s hopes came after Tursunov agreed to a measure cross from Akmal Shorakhmedov with a clinical volley that flew into the goal past a plunging Qatari goalkeeper Qasem Buran.

Nevertheless, Qatar coach Paulo Autuori tried to uplift his team’s as well as his own morale, telling sports reporters: I'm proud of the players and the spirit that they have shown, but I'm very disappointed with the defeat. Now we must forget this defeat and carry on with our campaign as we still have a chance. Uzbekistan are a strong team and we missed a lot of chances and eventually the win went to Uzbekistan."

mr_qatar - yeah well said and the local players instead of learning from the imported players end up teaching this imported players how to play. Perhaps all the big money, big houses, maids, etc makes them loose the will to play football in the desert

Let us get real here. Qatar has a population of 400,000. So they are punching their weight in football..

you have a good point there, joe. but some feel that qatar lost as a team, so they should also get up as a team and comeback to win as a 'whole'. football, after all, is a team sport.

as for commitment to an organization, there seems to be two classes of people here in doha. one feels they don't have to give their 100% best because it's not their country, the other is quite the opposite for many positive reasons.

the question is, do you have to be a qatari citizen to perform your best in the line of work you do here? if that's the case, i feel sorry for your sponsoring employer.

britexpat, Qatar did not score less, they never scored at all! the closes they got was from the 18-year-old fahad khalfan whose open shot incredibly missed the mark! some youtube clips even named it missed goal of the century (link: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/oddballs/847386-fahad-khalfans-incredible-open-goal-miss-to-be-youtube-hit)

Perhaps they could pay some European clubs to have them take local players to play with them for the experience as the european teams are certainly not going to be willing to pay for the local players like they do for Ronaldo, Messi and the others

Qatar lose to uzbekistan because Uzbekistan scored a goal and Qatar players dont knw how to score a goal..

Qataris need to buy messi, ronaldo, ferdinand, puyol and casillas coz Qataris are known as very rich but they dont know how to spend money. they bought so many foreign players (3-4) but when they land in Doha Intl Airport they becmes like Qatari players & suddenly forget how to kick the ball..

And I more thing I note that so many big players visit Qatar and join Qatar stars (obviously not) League like batistuta, Rivaldho, Romario, Younas Mehmood, Ali Karimi, now adays Raul but they are becmes nightmares in Qatar grounds..

Qatar need to qualify for this worldcup else some 1 from fifa will again start firing on Qatar that how a country can host a worldcup who never play in a worldcup..

All the best Qatar, wish u all the best and i will pray that u atleast participate in this worldcup (if u still have a chance though)...

Qatar need to shift all his player to european countires and join there leagues if they want to participate in following worldcup.. But if they keep relying on QSL then might be they will be announce not eligible for 2022 even.. lolxx

"A lot of questions have to be asked about the COMMITMENT of the Qatari players while playing in such a crunch match. The team looked in disarray — their moves lacked purpose and most of the time the forwards ran out of ideas once inside the rival box."

Clearly, why should non-Qataris show commitment? They are from Brazil or somewhere else, for the money. But commitment? For a country that isn't yours?
