I knowlingly bought two boxes of Special K sustain for 47.50QAR each. I am so ashamed of myself. What is the worst sin you have done in Qatar...?????

LOL Brin! So you were responsible for the cookie mix! We will have to talk to the manager about that salad dressing!

nice tricks rather suiciding your one month salary in a day!

I generally check the price at the cash counter before punching and leave there to take it back.

I had cookie mix brought in because I could never find it.

They carried it about 6 months ago.... then they quit. About 2 months ago I asked the manager and they said they'd discontinued carrying it. I'd told him I really wanted it and he said he was able to bring over smaller quantities if I like from another distributor.

They guy actually called me a few days later when it came in.

Thats just one example.... another one was sloppy joe mix. I haven't seen it for awhile but he was able to get it after i requested it... I bought like 12 cans!

A few times I've selected some fruit and vegetables from the shelf and had them bagged and priced. Then as I walk around the supermarket I notice the 2 tomatoes cost 21QR (so I left them in the chocolate aisle) the brocolli was going to set me back 35QR (so it was left in the toiletries aisle) and a sliver of pumpkin was priced at about 27QR (so I left it in the freezer cabinet).

I left with a litre of milk and an untouched shopping list.

Hey Brin, what have you had Giant bring in for you? I am really wanting some Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing. Will they bring in stuff like that?

Anything you want.... ask the manager at Giant Stores (atleast at Hyatt Plaza). They've had brought in anything I ask for.

Megamart pricing is driven off of the expats that go there just for the sake of going there because they think no-where else carries the stuff we want.

Regardless, imported stuff will cost more.... but Giant has been very cool about getting what I've wanted and its cheaper than Megamart anytime!

I once bought chicken from them. Got home and it STUNK.

I know, I know it is great for the treats, I know FFC isn't everybodys cup of tea. I just refuse to pay rip of prices for stuff that is either below standard or I can get somewhere else for half price.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

I shop there regularly but I (usually) avoid stuff if the price is an outrage. I did pay something like QR28 (about four pounds back then) for six English eggs during the Great Egg Crisis of '07-08.

I think most of the prices at MegaMart are pulled out of a lottery wheel. They should have smelling salts at the checkout!

My biggest sins there: A bottle of Fanta light - QR 38

and recently some organic apples. 4 little apples for I don't know what and I do not care, cause they have some taste and smell like apples not like those others waxed, spraypainted and artificially bloated things they call apples here.

I hate places like carrefour or giant and I never ever buy again in FFC. That place stinks!

Now we all admit that we have spent in that shop (spit), but we also know we can get the same stuff for half price elsewhere; why not ignore it.

All the stuff we like could be brought in by other shops if we asked.

So let's ask FFC, Giant and Carrefour?

They could do it. They would want it. It means more custom.

Since I stopped shopping there, I have got all the products I needed and more.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

You have no idea what a ridiculous price I paid to ship over a dozen large bags of cheddar flavored popcorn from the US to Qatar...the shipping cost more than the popcorn itself!

In-country, overly-decadent purchases would have to include bags of Reeses Pieces (QR28), boxes of Cheerios (QR40), mint chocolate covered Oreo cookies (the box had 12 cookies inside and cost QR28).

You often find that when Megamart get something new in they slap a ridiculously high price on it in the hope that people will just buy it (which we often do, clearly). But I've quite often seen that a few weeks later the price is drastically reduced, sometimes halved, presumably because not enough people were buying it at the ridiculous price.
