QUBE, Whats happening? The TRUTH!

I visited Qube in November and early January and it was full of people, from the balcony to the dance floor, it was thursday so maybe its a weekend thats why, so me and my friends went there regularly on weekday and there are a lot of people also and all the stuff people writing here is NOT TRUE, maybe they just dont like asians. The Music was perfect, DJ and 2 bands is great, one band plays old music and the other one modern music, thats a good combination and dj,,, not that good but not too bad. Well that was the past, What happened now????? Recently I went there to meet my friends and guess what, few people are now going there and I heard that this new manager changes a lot of things from the seats, entrance rules and schedules. Whats the dealio with the DJ at 1030pm?? No bands? Are you f*@#% crazy! People who go to Ramada expect bands not DJ alone, i have been in DOHA for 5years, i have seen all the clubs in Doha and only RAMADA clubs are full even in weekdays especially QUBE, i even heard that QUBE is reaching 2000 people during Thursdays and Fridays before and there are a lot of people outside in cue. Yes I have Asian friends aswell as Americans and Europeans, they told me they now prefer going to Sheratton because they are bands there. This is their reasoning; if they like DJ MUSIC they might aswell listen to their Radios or MP3 Players. Hey Manager what are you doing? I heard a lot of bad things about you, you dont like the band because they are Asians especially Filipinos, whats that? My filipino friends even said that 1st time they were proud to be Filipinos because of this new Band, I dont know whats their name, I havent met them but they say that they are the young, beautiful and sexy girls who appeared in FHM and MAXIM. They even said they are not only good but very descent people because they are celebrities in their country. And you hate Arabic people too, what do you expect from QATAR? Europeans and Americans? Crazy, Mafi muk! I even heard from my Arabic Friends that you discriminate them, why? Go back to your country, Doha is open for every one. You cant say that all asians are prostitues and all arabic are terrorist, What kind of person are you, I hate to tell you this but sooner or later if you dont change your ways QUBE will closed for sure. Are you sure you are not from other hotels sent to destroy QUBE?

Weiss, what exactly are you complaining about?

Your first post was a rant about racism, you seem to be alleging that the Qube was insitutionally racist, that some of the clientele were racist also. That's a big assumption to be making on your part.

Especially when your most recent post seems to complain not about racism, but about changes, the club putting up a DJ instead of a house band later in the evening.

Don't you think that racism is actually bad enough where and when it does exist, without you shouting about it and alleging it where and when it doesn't, just because you, personally, don't like the way a nightclub entertainment policy has changed?

Shouldn't you save charges of racism for when racism actually occurs? Instead of instances when a nightclub takes off a house band and installs a resident DJ and you disagree with his decision?

If every time something happens in life that you disagree with or dislike you cry 'racism', then people will start to ignore your allegations and treat them as nonsense, and then one day if something happens that is genuinely an instance of racism, no one will take any notice of you, because you have cried 'wolf' too often before.

Racism is a very serious issue. Be careful not to devalue its currency.

Well I've not been here long but I've heard there is a new DJ in town and looking for a decent place to play, he has approched Qube but they seem to be very respectful of there clientel and don't want to change things to much because of this! so it seems to be that the manager is trying to keep all happy... but anyway I agree that a brilliant DJ is the way to go but he obviously needs somewhere decent to play where there isn't a house band !! any help to advise is greatly received...

The fruits shall reveal what is right, before QUBE was packed and look at now? DJ is good, as I have said I like DJs too but not everyone, and I had a time talking with the people in charge at the entrance they say people are asking if the band is playing and if they knew that its a DJ night they would not go inside, go to QUBE so you will know, and about Sean Paul and Massari and the band at QUBE, what an analogy?!!?

What I know Qube is doing alright till these nonsense changes happened and pls all your comments are obviously coming from people who never been in QUBE. Lastly look at the other clubs here in Doha during weekdays, few people, is it band or DJ? its DJ

You've pointed out there's a cultural difference Drake, thank you for that, it kind of makes Weiss' comments make more sense.

Weiss is trying to say that recognising that cultural difference and catering to those different audiences and perfectly legitimate different preferences is racism.

It's one thing to say you don't like something, or that a certain group of people (largely defined by nationality/culture) tend not to like something, and it's something else to start ranting about racism because the two groups have different attitudes to what constitutes a good nightclub.

Weiss, if two groups of people have different opinions (and here I'm talking, roughly about philippino v. non-philippino), is it racist to acknowledge that and cater for it separately? Or is it just sensible to acknowledge that cultural *not racial* difference and cater for it?

Aren't you ranting about racism inappropriately here?

There's over 100,000 Philipinos in Qatar. All that I have met like a live band versus a dj. So you can't ignore them and cater to only Western expats who want dj's. The way things are going at Qube the only solution may be for Qube to go strictly DJ and be a true club, and the live music return to Shezharad. Give people the choice for what type of venue they want to go to.

Qube is definitely having an identity crisis right now.

I don't know what kind of clubs you've been to, but most of the clubs I go to have a DJ (not some cheesy band doing naff cover versions) and people go to dance.

yah yah, i know western people spend more money but it doesnt mean that we close the door for other nationalities or we cater only to their interest, what is this? Racism? Thats history, we are now 2007.i just hate when people are into RACISM, And i didnt mean we remove the dj, but not everyone loves dj, bands and dj are a good combination, i myself love DJ music, the real american way of clubbing but my friends love the band, so why remove them, i just notice the same people are posting here in QL especially in the thread of QUBE MANAGER ARRIVES, hmmmmmm, i wonder why, and all the negative things i read here i notice that they havent been in QUBE they all have wrong facts about whats heppening inside, come on people, live a life :)

Sorry Oryx. Wasn't meaning to sounds rude.

Just thought you might have worked out who I was. KNow a few teachers that is all.

I'll be at the FMP. I will be wearing a red t shirt and if it is anything like the FMP I went to in Thailand at New Year I will be seemingly trapped in my own body gently swaying for about 5 hours while everyone else had fun!

Oryx I agree with regard to Qataris etc but that is not who Qube was attracting with the live bands.

I'll be at the Full moon party. In fact can't wait.

Just deciding if board shorts and flip flops are the way to go?

Who are you? Do I know you?

I know a few Qataris and other Arabs who are equally lucrative clients with their nocturnal purchasing patterns!

weiss,

since the new manager arrived at QUBE, we have a new title that we discuss qube issues under. 'qube manager arrrives!!!'

why didnt you write your comments under that subject?? then we could discuss your critics there, I mean...

We, the QL people want a DJ and he brought it, mostly he is listening our comments...

I think you had a nightmare last night, thats why the first thing you do this morning is to write those things...slow down, calm down. If you have something to say, go to qube manager arrives page...qube manager is there! They are trying to make something better, and the only thing they need is time and support....

So wrong. Qube will thrive under the new regime. What has to happen is that it must start to become the go to place.

This won't happen until some major promotions are held and you can get in for free.

The band was terrible. If you want a band go to the other bars in the ramada.

From a purely financial point of view westerners are the way to go. Simple fact is they spend more on alcohol. Like it or not and I'm not saying it is an endearing aspect of western culture but many westerners go out at the weekend to get smashed and will spend at least QR500 each on doing it.

With the clientele you advocate that is not far short of the monthly wage.
