Thanksgiving

Hi there

Thanksgiving is a big thing in my family and I was wondering if anyone feasts together? I'd love to have a traditional turkey, stuffing and brown sugar yams. What do all you folks do for the holidays around here?

Cornbread dressing with jalepenos? That sounds interesting.

we do the whole 9 yards also..

Turkey, stuffing(only its cornbread dressing with jalepenos) mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, green jello salad (my mother in laws recipe!) green salad, pecan pie and pumpkin pie..

Then the next day, Friday, we have a HUGE Thanksgiving celebration with my hubby's work...

by then you are tired of looking at turkey!!!

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

We once went to the InterCon for the Thanksgiving buffet and they didn't serve mashed potatoes.

???????????

I can live without turkey, but Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes is NOT Thanksgiving, lol!

Oh Thanksgiving!!!! Can't wait!!!

Tara- your mom's dream salad... excellent. My mom did something similar... she adds mandarin oranges, coconut and maraschino (sp?) cherries.... best stuff!

Best part.... the left overs for days and days.

Bring on Thanksgiving!!!!

I want turkey I want turkey!!!

I bet your pies are yummy with the french adding their flair ;)

Thanksgiving is the only day I just want stuff I grew up with.

I love cranberry sauce (jelly from the can)

My mothers stuffing (raisens, apples, and butter on grated bread and stuffed into the bird)

turkey skin (no diet today :)

My mothers dream salad (cottage cheese, whipped cream, pineapple, and green coloring)

And some grasshoppers later (icecream, creme de menthe and any other alcohol possible ;)

I do the whole nine yards - 10 kilo turkey, home-made stuffing, gravy and potatoes, peas with pearl onions, cranberry sauce, hot rolls and pumpkin and pecan pies! I LOVE cooking one day a year.

Bastook! You're a pro. Maybe YOU should make the pumpkin pie for ME.

Tara, you can usually find plain canned pumpkin and all the other ingredients to make the pie.

Hi Tara, welcome to Qatar and QL. Lots of people celebrate in their homes, sometimes along with other families. Same as back home, I guess.

For us this year,it's just going to be 3 of us (unless we decide to invite the in-laws).. I'll buy a humongous Butterball from MegaMart. Waaaay to much for 3 people, so we'll have lots left over. Homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie....

Lol, how do I always manage to find my way to these food threads!
