Thanksgiving
By tara_thesouther... •
Hi there
Thanksgiving is a big thing in my family and I was wondering if anyone feasts together? I'd love to have a traditional turkey, stuffing and brown sugar yams. What do all you folks do for the holidays around here?
Cornbread dressing with jalepenos? That sounds interesting.
we do the whole 9 yards also..
Turkey, stuffing(only its cornbread dressing with jalepenos) mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, green jello salad (my mother in laws recipe!) green salad, pecan pie and pumpkin pie..
Then the next day, Friday, we have a HUGE Thanksgiving celebration with my hubby's work...
by then you are tired of looking at turkey!!!
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.
We once went to the InterCon for the Thanksgiving buffet and they didn't serve mashed potatoes.
???????????
I can live without turkey, but Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes is NOT Thanksgiving, lol!
I wish I can be invited to a typical thanksgiving
I believe -and some poeple proofed it right- that hotels don't do it right

Brin you have to give me the recipe. Mom will be so jealous when I outdo her lol :)
Oh Thanksgiving!!!! Can't wait!!!
Tara- your mom's dream salad... excellent. My mom did something similar... she adds mandarin oranges, coconut and maraschino (sp?) cherries.... best stuff!
Best part.... the left overs for days and days.
Bring on Thanksgiving!!!!
I want turkey I want turkey!!!
Brin
I bet your pies are yummy with the french adding their flair ;)
Thanksgiving is the only day I just want stuff I grew up with.
I love cranberry sauce (jelly from the can)
My mothers stuffing (raisens, apples, and butter on grated bread and stuffed into the bird)
turkey skin (no diet today :)
My mothers dream salad (cottage cheese, whipped cream, pineapple, and green coloring)
And some grasshoppers later (icecream, creme de menthe and any other alcohol possible ;)
it's all the same stuff as American, only we do it first and I like to think, better :)
so turkey and yams and stuffing and pie..many many kinds of pie....
I do the whole nine yards - 10 kilo turkey, home-made stuffing, gravy and potatoes, peas with pearl onions, cranberry sauce, hot rolls and pumpkin and pecan pies! I LOVE cooking one day a year.

Now what do you all eat for Canadian thanksgiving. I never even knew you guys had a different one. Something to google in my boredom lol
Well clearly you people are a month late- Canadian thanksgiving is the only way to go ;)

Bastook! You're a pro. Maybe YOU should make the pumpkin pie for ME.
Tara, you can usually find plain canned pumpkin and all the other ingredients to make the pie.

mmm pumpkin pie sounds good. Make sure you keep some leftovers for little ole me Notfromhere :)
So do they sell pumpkin pie mix here in Qatar?
Tara, am sending you a PM :-)
Hi Tara, welcome to Qatar and QL. Lots of people celebrate in their homes, sometimes along with other families. Same as back home, I guess.
For us this year,it's just going to be 3 of us (unless we decide to invite the in-laws).. I'll buy a humongous Butterball from MegaMart. Waaaay to much for 3 people, so we'll have lots left over. Homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie....
Lol, how do I always manage to find my way to these food threads!
Does anyone have the phone number for the american association? I looked in the marhaba magazine but it was the wrong number.
American Womens association is clebrating....maybe you can join them.

Most of the Hotels have Thanksgiving Buffet...some expat groups also celebrate...unfortunately we don’t have any holiday for Thanksgiving! :(
