I don't know why people keep complaining about the traffic.

The Gulf Times reported that:

"Traffic Department’s plan effective in easing congestion"

...

"The Traffic Department’s plan worked smoothly yesterday to ease circulation on all roads of Doha, especially those where construction work is on, in co-ordination with the Rescue Police (Al Fazaa) and Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya)."

It's not as if the Gulf Times just prints lies.

Bangkok used to have the same traffic problem some twenty five years ago which they solved by a mounted metro system.

Until metro comes into operation in Qatar, toll tax on the main roads can force the one person, one car to go into group traveling, and this is definitely a simpler and doable job.

The traffic police are to blame most of the time, they try to "help" but instead they just turn the roundabouts to a nightmare and making cars que up for way too long. Every time I see them trying to arrange traffic I just want to scream out of my car and tell them to leave us alone! we can handle it much easier if you just leave it be!

buy the car driving next to you

the population of car is more than the population of the people here...that is where the problem lies

One person owns 3-4 cars

The main problem is the construction work on most of the roads in Doha. The roads in corniche as well as those inside Doha are narrowed because of heavy road works and the traffic from those roads are getting diverted to the other roads which causes the jam. Some roads that goes to corniche are closed as well. I hope it will be eased by the end of this month.

How can this be because the schools are back?

Was the traffic this bad during the final weeks of the school term before the summer holidays?

I think most of the problem is when the police come to the roundabouts and junctions and try to "help".

Brit, I feel this will continue till the WC2022 as even after 2018 many expats would be hired to man the newly built infrastructures and thus the floating population will keep on swelling..

After the games, the hotel industry will start having a lean phase and we may see an exodus of hospitality staff.

Everything should be OK by 2018.

in the meanwhile get a CD of popular books and listen to an audio book whilst relaxing in the traffic.

Just remember that whilst sitting there, you are burning fuel and thus helping the economy!
