What do you miss about your home country?

Hi everybody,
If you are an expat in Qatar what do you miss from your country of origin? If you are a Qatari what will you miss if you have to go abroad and stay there for a long time? Personally I miss the cold “real “winter back home. I miss the abundant rain. I miss our little garden, and the fresh veggies, and the view of my grandpa put his back to it! I miss the green fields, rivers, and the narrow uphill roads.
And most of all I miss my relatives and old friends. I guess, I just wanna be 16 again):
:P
i miss public celebrations of new years :P
I miss my fresh red lobster (yes I know I can get it fresh here but it's too expensive in Canada, Nova Scotia, Halifax it was cheap that you can buy a lobster in the airport. Same with Scallops, again I know I can get them here but it's just not the same.
I miss snow even though I hate the cold, I miss my Snow Days no school/work!
I miss order.
15. a few blasts here nd there...
i miss my family. my mother is a really good cook. i miss her meal. haizz
I miss Toppokki & Kimchi & Pork BBQ
I miss friends and family
I miss bars and clubs, free crazy night life in Seoul.
But I also found many things that I like in Doha, like corniche and cheap vegetables and fruits, tasty cheese and milk, curries everywhere.
Any body from from Lahore, Pakistan would definitely miss the following:
1. Cukkoo's Den
2. Rickshaws
3. Gogay key Chanay
4. Butt's Samosaas
5. Lush green parks
6. Gymkhana
7. Coffee Tea and Company
8. BBQ Tonite
9. Gourmet Resturant
10. Yousaf's Faloda
11. Long drive on mall road
12. Al-hamra open air theater
13. Cold weather / FOG
14. Night Cricket
O miss Lahore!!! :)
(: I'm home now
-I miss smoking a fatty on the road
-I miss walking on the street without 20 idiots stopping their cars to talk to me
-I miss equality among people and no slavery
The flippetty floppetty rain , misty mornings , allergic sneezes , overload of ignorance , various varieties of aunts&other sisters and their cooking , bus rides , auto rikshas , the wet mud smell when it rains, perverts whose forever job seems to be Eve teasing , ice cream, trains , train food , local blankets and a whole lot of other stuff .

you guys have pretty much summed up what I miss about home, but most of all, i miss my firearms and the freedom to do just about anything as long as you don't hurt anyone.
I miss the cottage luxury life of jetskiing and waking up from parties where you can't find your pants and sit beside your best pals wondering how pancakes and maple syrup ended up on the ceiling.
I try to make this place as homely as possible but it is far from my ideals of a perfect place.
but like brit expat said, we all chose to compromise and be here for one reason or another, but i bet we all know what that is ;)
it's to enjoy ice cream in genuine hot weather lol, i dont know what you guys were thinking :P

the feel of a common man, when you travel in the public transport and not being looked upon by ppl travelling in car as cheap (as i feel in Qatar)
and most of all.. Mom ke haath ka khana..
God.. i miss so many things.. but still cant afford to get back to it.. cause i bliv that everyone out here has a reason for being here..

The rest is not important...coz they're there...
Missing family and all the festival celebrations like ganeshutsav, Diwali crackers & Diya, garba and holi, Christmas gathering and New year Masti whole night.
Oops i still think i missed out something.
I miss original local food! Chinese food in Qatar is not Chinese at all!! I miss street food especially...
definitely the freedom.... to work, etc
and the climate, and no of course no discrimination allowed....
I miss the christmas celebrations back home :(
Easy guys
that obey the road rules and know that road rage is unacceptable!
But see that's where I'm smart(even though I say so myself!) I may "miss" these things...but I have still not gone back, even for vacations.Hence whilst the memories adorn my mind every now and then, my money still stays in my purse!
You know most of all, when i do move away for whatever reason I miss how kind and generous ppl r in Qatar!!! I travel a lot and I spend months or yrs away at a time...and I always miss how accommodating and nice ppl r to one another in Qatar....It's just not the same anywhere else, or so it feels....It makes me feel that ppl in Qatar r always content.

The people, the places, the food, the flowers, the greenery, the RAINS. I miss walks outside in the evening, driving, shopping, eating out with friends, relatives popping in now and then just to say hello :) crazy, fun, laughter filled times with cousins, and so much more!

The greenery and the rain.. :)
I miss wandering in dark streets with my friends in the night, singing loud and waking people up from their beauty sleep by my beautiful voice.. getting chased by dogs... Oh, I miss going out on "Special Missions" :P
everything about my village.
But as britexpat said, we choose this way, for one reason or other.
That's okay, Mrs. Fathimah. However, I would not stay in a place if I missed something badly. Missing requires compensation, for example, extensive (useless) shopping. So, all that you could have saved goes down the drain because you have to make up for all the things you miss. It's a loser situation.
storm pani puri here is so bakwas
i miss my parents and siblings. Just spending time with them or sit outside the sunny SA and watch a match was heart warming. I miss that. I miss biltong, the mountains...drankesberg,miss the cold sea in the atlantic ocean, i miss the food. oohhh how i miss home
We miss everything but also we gain a lot from here alhamdulillah we can enjoy all those missing things during our planned vacation with pocket full of money earned from here

Oh i miss everything now .... really made me sad
i miss pani puri
But then you'll be old and wrinckled, Rizks. No time left to enjoy what you have amassed.
I miss my family.
Lols Spock, we are here to earn a better living when we go back home ! :)
You make your life miserable by your own choice. Very funny!
Gloomy Weather, Fresh Food, awesome chicks, Clean Roads & Buildings & Greenery.
If you guys miss all this, why the hell are you here??
Everything!
I miss the rain. the greenery. My parents and friends and most of all the total freedom.
BUT , Its my choice :O(
FREEDOM !!! :(
I miss nothing. I left "my country" because I was fed up with the blue mountains, the green valleys, the highways without speed limit, the bars downtown, and the cafes to watch the girls go by. I love the sand, the sun, and the sea!
MNz - you pinched my thunder... I miss the rain, a lot - and we have a lot of it!
Girl next door.
Marco it seems ur missing home a lot this morning....:(
When I reached here the first time, was shocked to see the plain sand filled barren land while the plane was landing at the airport, I know it's a dessert country but trust me it was shocking to see no trees on long stretches of land. I miss all the greenery we have back home. Miss all the yummy food from the street side stalls, m sure many of my Indian friends here on QL would agree with me it's yummy...!! Rains how can I forget the amazing cold rains, those days of zooming off the bike on rain filled roads...:)
Above all I miss my family, my friends, the comfort of being in a place u have always known....:)
Well I guess now that we are here it's just about some time nd we vl make Doha our home too, but one thing that can't be changed is that we can't stop missing the things we left behind...:(
Drinking in the open on a highway
i miss street food and street shopping ;)
Your profile says that your nationality is Qatari but words seems that you are not from Qatar ?
Do you have any explanation pls?
* The green mountains and waterfalls of the upcountry areas.
* The food:Specially the fruits and veg only found within the country
* The weather..specially the rainfall.
* The Sunday markets
* Galle Face green on a weekend evening(Only someone who has been to Sri Lanka will know what I mean)
I just stuck to mentioning all the materialistic stuff. Don't wanna do the whole emotional thing..but yeah this post has now got me yearning!
