What do you miss about your home country?

Hi everybody,
If you are an expat in Qatar what do you miss from your country of origin? If you are a Qatari what will you miss if you have to go abroad and stay there for a long time? Personally I miss the cold “real “winter back home. I miss the abundant rain. I miss our little garden, and the fresh veggies, and the view of my grandpa put his back to it! I miss the green fields, rivers, and the narrow uphill roads.
And most of all I miss my relatives and old friends. I guess, I just wanna be 16 again):
:P

I miss my fresh red lobster (yes I know I can get it fresh here but it's too expensive in Canada, Nova Scotia, Halifax it was cheap that you can buy a lobster in the airport. Same with Scallops, again I know I can get them here but it's just not the same.

I miss snow even though I hate the cold, I miss my Snow Days no school/work!

you guys have pretty much summed up what I miss about home, but most of all, i miss my firearms and the freedom to do just about anything as long as you don't hurt anyone.

I miss the cottage luxury life of jetskiing and waking up from parties where you can't find your pants and sit beside your best pals wondering how pancakes and maple syrup ended up on the ceiling.

I try to make this place as homely as possible but it is far from my ideals of a perfect place.

but like brit expat said, we all chose to compromise and be here for one reason or another, but i bet we all know what that is ;)

it's to enjoy ice cream in genuine hot weather lol, i dont know what you guys were thinking :P

miss my brothers.. my mom n my relatives..

miss d days wen nothing was unachieveable..

the late night drives on the nandi hills wid frnds (while i was in bangalore, studying)..

the roadside food.. d paani puri jus for 10 INR..

spicy foood..

the long evening walks on the beach wid frnds (in my native)..

the feel of a common man, when you travel in the public transport and not being looked upon by ppl travelling in car as cheap (as i feel in Qatar)

and most of all.. Mom ke haath ka khana..

God.. i miss so many things.. but still cant afford to get back to it.. cause i bliv that everyone out here has a reason for being here..

You know most of all, when i do move away for whatever reason I miss how kind and generous ppl r in Qatar!!! I travel a lot and I spend months or yrs away at a time...and I always miss how accommodating and nice ppl r to one another in Qatar....It's just not the same anywhere else, or so it feels....It makes me feel that ppl in Qatar r always content.

That's okay, Mrs. Fathimah. However, I would not stay in a place if I missed something badly. Missing requires compensation, for example, extensive (useless) shopping. So, all that you could have saved goes down the drain because you have to make up for all the things you miss. It's a loser situation.

Marco it seems ur missing home a lot this morning....:(

When I reached here the first time, was shocked to see the plain sand filled barren land while the plane was landing at the airport, I know it's a dessert country but trust me it was shocking to see no trees on long stretches of land. I miss all the greenery we have back home. Miss all the yummy food from the street side stalls, m sure many of my Indian friends here on QL would agree with me it's yummy...!! Rains how can I forget the amazing cold rains, those days of zooming off the bike on rain filled roads...:)

Above all I miss my family, my friends, the comfort of being in a place u have always known....:)

Well I guess now that we are here it's just about some time nd we vl make Doha our home too, but one thing that can't be changed is that we can't stop missing the things we left behind...:(
