This is a good read. It defends the faith and shows how it can stand up against the growing atheist voices (Richard Hawkins, Sam Harris, etc.) I wonder if Darwin knew what trouble he would leave in his wake (with people misinterpreting him).

It does make some claims that I can't believe. Are they true?

(1) The modern idea of marriage came about with the advent of Christianity. Before that, love was definitely out of the question in marriage. Family/tribal/economical/political arrangements were the key to marriage.

(2) Policial "checks and balances" came with the advent of Christianity.

(3) The desire to invent inventions & find laws about nature came about with Christianity.

Hi,

I usually read a few books at the same time as I don't have the patience to concentrate on one :o) Now I am reading Ernest Heminway's the old man and the sea.

It is one of my 5 'all time favourites'. The others are:

- The human consequences of urbanization (academic)

- Third class ticket (travel journal)

- Small is beautiful (academic)

- The dating game: one man's search for the age of the earth (sorry, academic again)

One of my 2008 goals is to re-read these books. I am confident that it could be accomplished because I am living in Doha ...
