International Olympic Committee boss Bach expects Qatar Olympics bid
One of the most pertinent question on everyone’s minds is whether Qatar will bid for another Olympic Games, after failing to get past the first rounds for the 2016 and 2020 Games.
One person who has no doubts that Qatar would bid for the quadrennial Games again is Thomas Bach, president of International Olympic Committee.
In the country to attend the Association of National Olympic Committee's General Assembly, he said he could ‘imagine’ Qatar making a bid for the world’s biggest sporting extravaganza again.
“The procedure for the next Olympic Games is underway and I can imagine one day Qatar would be a candidate for hosting the Olympic Games,” he said, while on a visit to the iconic Aspire Academy.
He is the second major sports boss to give their backing to a Qatari bid for the Games. Last month, Briton Sebastian Coe, who heads the International Association of Athletics Federations, had thrown his weight behind a Summer Olympics in Qatar.
Will we ever see the country host the Olympic Games? After all, nothing can stop an idea whose time has come!
