Have you ever wondered what is involved in the organisation of a FIFA World Cup?

With this summer’s major football tournaments in Europe and the Americas just days away from kick-off, here is a glimpse at some of the organisational elements and numbers behind delivering the Middle East’s first-ever World Cup in 2022.

Enough broadcast cabling to reach from Doha to Sochi, one of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, as well as 2.3m metres of fibre optic and ethernet cable – enough to get from Doha to Mumbai.

70,000 outdoor lights — more than three times as many lights as the Eiffel Tower.

84,000 tonnes of structural steel – more than twice the amount used for Burj Khalifa.

9,200 trees to be planted in the areas surrounding the proposed 2022 FIFA World Cup host venues – more than double the amount in London’s Hyde Park.

10,880 doors, 26 times the number of doors in the White House and seven times as many as Buckingham Palace.

In addition to all this, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy will rely upon skills and experience of people and businesses from across Qatar and the Middle East to deliver the region’s first-ever World Cup.

But the trees are needed to get the wood for the 10,880 doors!

taleh: You are ofcourse correct.. However, it can't be done overnight.. Trees cost money, they have to be nurtured in this climate and most importantly, watering them is very very expensive
