Vodafone Qatar makes the region’s first 5G holographic call
In a new technological feat for the country, Vodafone Qatar has made the region’s first 5G holographic call.
Vodafone Qatar demonstrated the breakthrough technology yesterday at the third edition of its Innovation Day that brought into view several other innovative technologies, reported Gulf Times.
A holographic call involves the use of transformational technology to scan a person from all angles. They then appear in front of you as a hologram, so you can see, hear and interact with them as if they are in the same room.

Yet another major communications technology milestone for Qatar, the first live 5G holographic call saw Abdulkarim Hassan, defender on the Qatar National Team and AFC 2019 Asian Cup winner, appear as a live 3D hologram on stage in front of the audience.
During the call, which was made at the Marsa Malaz Kempinski Hotel, Hassan shared footballing advice and tips with two members of Qatar’s future generation athletes under training at Aspire Academy, according to Qatar Tribune.
His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti and other distinguished officials were in attendance at the event, in addition to a large number of attendees from Qatar’s top private and public organizations.
The revolutionary call reflects the possibilities of 5G technologies, particularly how ultrafast speed and low latency can enable a diverse range of applications.
In the domain of sports, such a technology holds a range of promising opportunities such as remote coaching and training as well as the possibility of providing sports fans with a chance to experience stadiums from virtually anywhere in the world.
Vodafone’s Innovation Day, is one the largest technology-related event of its kind, where customers and partners are presented a wide range of services, solutions, and products ranging from smart manufacturing, smart environment, smart agriculture, connected marine boats, cloud and hosting, to virtual landline numbers.
“Over the past three years [Innovation Day] has become a platform for businesses of all sizes to explore how technology can unlock a world of possibilities and accelerate their journey to growth. As a digital first company, innovation runs through our DNA,” said Vodafone Qatar CEO Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim Al Thani.
"This explains our drive to help build Qatar’s digital future, one that will transform how we live and work. We are committed to play our part to move Qatar towards being one of the most connected countries in the world – in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.”
