Qatar Living speaks to visual artist, Mohammed Kamal Al Emadi, to learn more about his journey.

Mohammed has been a visual artist since 2007. He graduated from the University of Bedfordshire in 2013. Following that he began working in the communication and advertising industry.

As he was able to hone his skills with his job experience, Mohammed began taking part in a few group-shows between Doha and the UK.

Traveling sparked his interest deeply in art as he got inspired by new culutural experiences at different museums and galleries.

“I find inspiration in arts as it makes me travel into new worlds and culture, and photography is a form of visual arts and communication I love to see people’s work and new trends in photography,” he said.

Mohammed is a self-taught artist and he improved his talent by reading and visiting exhibitions.

“I enjoy reading and seeing the works of other artists and have been privileged to visit many exhibitions around the world,” he said.

Mohammed mentioned that he learned a lot since he started his journey being a visual artist. All of what he learned gave him inspiration to see the quality of life.

“Art is a rewarding field of creativity. It opens new ways of thinking and inspiration that improves the quality of life,” he described.

His art aims to give joy to whoever sees it and he seeks inspire other artists, especially beginners, through his work.

“I want the audiences to enjoy and appreciate what I capture and inspire them to think or learn photography. I really enjoy when young artists come for advice or feedback regarding how we grow as a community,” he mentioned.

However, Mohammed never sends a direct message through his art. He leaves it to the audiences to reflect on what they see.

COVID-19 changed everyone’s perspective, and it changed a lot of our plans, in both negative and positive ways.

Mohammed took advantage from the lockdown and used his time to work on his art.

“COVID-19 gave us time to pause and appreciate what we have,” he said.

“I had the chance to work with Al Hosh gallery to curate Memories in Prints exhibition,” he added.

Mohammed is working on few new projects now that “will see the light soon” as he mentioned.

He concluded with some advice to all the younger artists saying, “Read around your interests, visit as much exhibitions as you can, and be open to hear feedback from others.”
