The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has urged residents on social media to maintain the cleanliness of the country.

Qatar has laws to penalise offenders by ordering them to pay hefty fines. The fines for some violations include:

Fines for some violations can go up to QR 5,000 and repeat offenders get the VIP treatment - fines up to QR 10,000.

Interesting fact: Qatar is the 44th most cleanest country in world according to 2014 Environmental Performance Index.

Too many people assume that others will clean up after them

Some people are just too lazy when it comes to throwing garbage properly. They take aim and make an attempt to throw the bag of garbage into the garbage trolley while sitting in their cars. They miss. They just drive away. Possibly it is against their dignity to get off and throw the garbage properly. But these small acts are really learnt at home from childhood. The rest of the job of spreading garbage all over the streets is done by other cars that run over the bags lying around the streets and also by cats that look for easy meals.

Guys dont you think that at least the govt is trying to do something rather then doing nothing about the garbage in and around Qatar. We all should do our part in keeping the country clean. WT its easy to judge others, i think you have a lot of pain in you Bro.... Peace be with you!

Again, the government issues a law but it doesn't provide an infrastructure to allow people to have their cars washed for a reasonable cost within a reasonable time. Very stupid.

If you compare .... Washing cars with Spitting ........... there is big mismatch in the fines .... because spitting isn't gurgling even .......... Tue, 28.07.2015, 11.44 hrs

I wish people here would take a shower half as often as they washed their cars.

Car owners wash their casrs at home because:

Many have drivers and maids and use them to wash their cars daily

Many don't want to spend the money or have the hassle of driving to a car wash

washing cars at home you can find them daily early in the morning or mostly during weekends. Long cue, poor washing and expensive are the main causes why there are car owners prepared to was their cars at home despite the fact of penalties in case caught by authorities.

My Qatari neighbor has his three cars washed daily in an not-designated area (the yard of the villa). The dirty water is flowing into the street. He should actually pay QAR 600.- per day. Ha, ha, ha, what a joke all these laws and rules.
