Strict action against motorists parking behind other cars

The Traffic Department is getting tough on motorists who park their vehicles behind other cars, blocking smooth movement of other vehicles.

Strict action will be taken against those who stop their vehicles behind other cars and block the movement of other vehicles, a senior official said yesterday.

“It is not sufficient just to make them pay fines and register details of the vehicles involved in such offences and let them go,” Lt Colonel Mohammed Radhi Al Hajri, Director of Media and Traffic Awareness, was quoted by Qatar News Agency as saying.

He said the vehicles involved in such violations would be tugged to Vehicles Custody Centre, where most unclaimed and confiscated vehicles are kept.

Then legal action would be taken against erring motorists, which may include a fine and the cost of moving the vehicle to the centre.

Lt. Colonel Al Hajri said the department has been receiving complaints from people that they are not able to take out their vehicles, as other motorists temporarily block their way.

He said such “irresponsible and uncivilised” behaviour on the part of some motorists is causing a lot of problems for others.

“Motorists who block the path of other vehicles should realise that people in other vehicles may be facing emergency situations such as medical emergency and others.

“Such irresponsible behaviour and attitude cause a waste of time and unnecessary delays for fellow motorists,” he said.

Article 78 of Law No. 5 of 2010 prohibits motorists from parking their vehicles at unauthorised place. The Article also prohibits motorists from parking their vehicles in a way that may create an obstacle or hindrance for other vehicles.

And under Article 81 of the law, the department has the authority to tug such vehicles to the Vehicles Custody Centre and recover transportation costs and applicable fines charge from violators.

Traffic authorities have appealed to motorists to abide by rules. They have also  warned motorists against parking their vehicles at unauthorised places and cause hindrance for fellow road users.

The department said it is mobilising resources and gearing up to take on such offenders very soon.

i was reported once for blocking what i thought was an old abandoned car..it was actually a regularly used but never washed car haha..saw the violation online next day..now i still do it but stay in my car..and hey abul kashim, they never show up for such reports...they only take the car number and your phone number...how do you know he wasn't fined? I reported a Qatari once near bank street because his parked car had completely blocked traffic..and a few days later I did get a call from the police asking me to come and testify, because the Qatari was fighting the fine and wanted to know why it had been issued; needless to say, he was pretty rude to me but in the end my testimony stood. Also, the Qatari/wasta system does exist but more often than not, you'll see the law is fair in most cases; I have been in these situations 3 times and was given justice each time; not saying i'll never encounter a bad scene and be in trouble for no reason, but it hasn't happened yet. Hopefully it won't happen in future too, because depending on how sleepy I am, I'll probably fight and get in even more trouble lol

It looks like someone important has been blocked in by another vehicle, hence the Traffic Department getting tough.

I once reported such a case but the Police never showed up as the person that parked his car behind me was a Qatari. It is a law they say but when it is a Qatari the police seem to shut their eyes and ears.

Splendid news for Qataris but not so much for International people.
