Hi,

i am from Sudan...living in Malaysia...almost for 2 decades now...done with my degree recently.

i am a person who like to experience new environment...new challenge...new adventure...and one of those countries in my short-listed is Qatar.. but before attempting to anything..i need to make sure that i made the right call...so here i want to ask those who lived for a certain period in both countries or those who know more then i know to tell me that coming to Qatar is not the right call in-term of working opportunities, living cost, entertainments, life style... etc comparing it to Malaysia... beside having a healthy lifestyle i like getting to know more ppl from different parts of the world.... indulge myself in new culture....

............thanks allot guys........

Are you saying that the only good people you have met in Qatar are Qataris and every other person you have met in Qatar is bad?

You either don't get out very much or you have been incredibly unlucky in the people that you have met.

Or did I misundertsand your comment?

some people seem very good when you meet them in foreign countries.you never know good people outside of their countries.

Afri and rashed it is true, there are people, who come to enjoy and experience culture first and get the money later. We have plenty of ‘em around, and lets expect more. They enjoy life and are given huge salaries they claim are just a teeny fraction of what they get back home. Who wouldn’t enjoy if you get huge salaries, and get everything (food allowance, transport, large villas, education and tickets for the whole family) absolutely free. And theres more !!

where the heck do you apply for that ?????????

while i have to work like a slave with other cultures to get a f##king meager salary .

Well there are plenty of Nepalis in Qatar and you can get a glimpse of their culture in Qatar so no need to go to Nepal.

rashid, nobody is talking about LEARNING about cultures. People are talking about EXPERIENCING cultures. And some enjoy that so much, they make it their lifestyle. What if people like living here enough to stay for a long time? I can't see anything wrong with that.

And although I do not know Xena that well, I know her well enough to know that she is not here for the money.

By Xena• 19 Dec 2010 14:53

I will leave when I am good and ready....

Am just curious... does it make you feel better about yourselves putting down people that are here for something other than money? People who believe that life is worth more than just money?

Are you trying to justify your greed?

Remember something Rashid Ahmed, Allah loves humility and compassion. Not aggression, nasty and spitefulness.

khallas... am done here - carry on without me.

You too a Hypocrite...I think your comments on Indians are because you are so low-standard in your work when compared to Indians. In the US most of the scientists and doctors are made up of Indians and then followed by the rest. And your comments about Indians being hated here; only guys like you make such comments which are absolute nonsense. What are you trying to make out of it? Just have a look at the number of Indians present here - they are the largest expat community here. Also if you look at the Indians at the top positions in Qatari administration. How many CEO's of Qatari companies are from Indian origin.

Rahsid.. every1 is obliged to his own opinion...what eve u say or what eve others have said..doesn't mean anything -at least to me- more than a personal believe...but u can't go around -neither me or any1 else- and impose ur opinion on others by all means..like saying they are wrong, i disagree or no1 comes 2 Qatar just to experience a new culture..etc..ppl do have priorities many consider money as their 1st priority..but not all of us consider so...

5 years to to learn culture. master's degree is 2 years and PhD is 3 years. 2+3=5; you have gotten a PhD in Qatar culture!!!!!!!! you can go home to teach now!!!

By the way there are people from 120 different nationalities working in Qatar as per recent statement issued by H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, I don't think you can experience such diversity even in the rainbow nation.

But now that I have to work 84 hours a week...

It pretty much is just for the money...

But if my hours ever get trimmed down...

I see nothing wrong in doing both...

According to the people on this post, its seems entirely impossible for people to come here to experience different cultures, and not for the financial aspect of it...

If I was back home now, I would be earning at least 3 times what I am earning here, since in the 5 years I have been here, my salary increased 1 time (in 2007), by a measly 10%, which was QR300 to those of you that are interested.... now work that back and it will give you an idea of my salary....

I stay because I have made my life and good friends here - certainly not because of the money.... Get it through your heads that some people actually do come here for other reasons than to get rich.

Money has never been the inspiration for me to do anything - its a means to get by in life, nothing more.

I live from month to month, have no savings and get by with what I have....

But I have friends from every walk of life, who I can interact with on their own cultural level - because in knowing them, I have enriched my life.

By anonymous• 19 Dec 2010 01:19

africana I don't think money was the driving force behind my arrival in Qatar, I didn't come to experience new cultures either.. Money is a factor that I considered later on when I started to get cold feet but initial decision wasn't based on that.

Hard to believe but some people aren't driven by money alone.

By africana• 18 Dec 2010 22:49

people who came to meet people, dont need to work. some people are staying here for years but claiming that they came to meet people and learn about culture!!!!!. it's not shame to say that u came here to make money.

It is safe, clean and a great place to live. Some people say it is boring but it is not! My kids get a great education away from the prescriptive education of England. My husband has a great job, we live in a house that we could only dream about in the UK. We are very lucky people. Thank you Qatar.

Don't judge Qatar but the comments above. There are lots of people who are here for reasons other then just money. Me for one!!

It's a great place to live if you take the time to meet new people and go out and experience things. If someone is here purely for money then sometimes they ignore everything else about the country and become bitter ;)

There is plenty to do (despite what people say), the lifestyle is good & you'll meet an amazing number of people from all walks of life!

Yes I did... and so did Oryx as you see further up in the post.... some people AREN'T money driven... if I was, I wouldn't have bothered coming here for the measley amount I get every month... you know absolutely nothing about me, so don't you dare come and tell me why I am here....

I am done with people who think they know everything, when all they have ever done is come to Qatar, by their own admission, only for money - I feel sorry for you if thats the case... money doesn't buy you happiness!!!!

Really? where do you meet different people of different cultures in SA?

I am not talking about the African cultures, I mean international cultures - lived with the african culture all my life.... don't come and talk absolute nonsence here.... The number of cultural diversities in SA are nowhere the same as in Qatar - here I have made friends from probably every nationality in the world... where would I have had that opportunity in SA?

Exactly, nowhere!!!!

Visit SA first before you talk....

my friend,consider the following:

1.Malaysia is a good pale for meeting foreigners!

2.Malaysia is a good place for entertainments !

3.living standard in Qatar is better than that of Malaysia!

4.if you get a good job here, what you can save will be much more than your whole salary in Malaysia!!

5.living in Malaysia is very cheap but you can still save more in Qatar in you get a good job

5.if your main aim is to make money in Qatar ,don't hesitate to come!!! but if your primary goals are entertainments , then don't come!!

6. be careful not to accept any bad job offer in Qatar here

you may be mentally 100% ready to come to Qatar. But it is not very easy to get a job here with good salary. I saw your profile you are quite young and most of the places in qatar they need experienced people. try your luck. asking people will get you no where. you will always get mixed opinions.

People look for employment overseas for a variety of reasons.Earning more money could be one of the reasons but there are others as well for instance, wanting to experience a new culture, expanding one's horizon in terms of employments opportunities available.

Well, there are differences of opinion. And i wouldn't comment negatively about a persons's opinion about his/her reasons for working here in Qatar in particular unless,of course it is something gravely misquoted.

I definately didn't come here for money - I don't earn enough!!!!

Don't listen to cooldude2010 , he is saying so because he's an Indain guy, and this country do not like Indians as they are so hated here and they are offered less salaries comparing to others because of their nationality... anyway if you want to experience a good adventure and a good living come to Qatar, you will be offered a good salary and you will have a good life style based on what you want....

Good Luck

Qatar is very boring and expensive if u compare it with Malayasia, cost of living is high and rent prices are expensive. salary raise yearly is not possible. culture if ur muslim then you would like it but the rules here are strict for bachelors they are not allowed to go on fridays which is holiday in malls and parks which are very less.

so if want to come here for money sake only take a good offer only as per family and recreation point it sucks

its better to stay in malayasia or go to countries like dubai ot bahrain for nice family life.
