Contract signed 5 weeks ago. Attestation issue

Dear QLers, Due to the Eid break, I cant ask HR for an answer so I am asking you knowledgeable folk. I signed a contract 5 weeks ago for a job in Qatar. This would be my 3rd stint since 2007 in Qatar, for the same company. The company is the largest in Qatar and are on the ball in terms of recruiting and sorting out visas. 2 days ago I was informed by HR that they need my certificates attested. I do not hold a degree or a diploma and they know this from the past. I was asked to return based on my experience and past performance for the company. I do have education certs but they are fairly minor. I am due out in Qatar no later than 25th October so with the Eid break, I am not going to be able to get all attestation done in time for that deadline. Heres the thing. In my contract, it states things that I need to do before a visa will be issued. It DOES NOT state that certs need to be attested. It states ''Email a copy of your education certificates and show originals upon arrival''. It does state that I need my police clearance cert attested, which has been done. I am going to raise this with HR when everyone returns for work and ask for an extension on my due date in Qatar. To put my mind at rest a little, does anybody have any thoughts or views on this?

Thanks DrColin. It turns out that I had to get my certs attested. 193.00 GBP per cert fast track. Still waiting for entry visa. Must say I was surprised that nobody in HR could push through my application, considering its my third stint with the company.

Perhaps things are more rigid now, but I only left in at the start of 2012.

Anyhow, a warning to all those who have signed a contract for a job in Qatar. DO NOT resign from your current job until you have the entry visa and flight details confirmed.

I have just gone through the same process ref visa attestation, and what was an initial problem seems to have vanished. Your PRO should have enough "wasta" to push through the application for renewal and also you are right, showing of the certificates without attestation works . I do not think the level of certificate matters, just the existence of a certificate which can be viewed.

I hope you are through this process as we speak, and wish you every success.

I think you can have your minor education certs (presumably your secondary cert or any 2 year course you had) be attested and send it to your company. As long as they are not fake. Other companies requirement is that for defined positions like engineers, doctors, they require that your school records should be attested. But for admin posts, other companies does not require attestation of school records. I must repeat,, other companies... But somehow it depends on the post you will be holding. Sometimes, a company is relying on the experiences of candidates eventhough you are only having secondary/minor schooling. If you have more than 5 to 10 or 20 years experience in the field you are working, school qualifications are not their priority. Because some are college graduate but they seem to work like school prep.. u know what I mean.

thanks luthfe. I realise you are trying to procure business for your company but I have already sorted that here in the UK.

Anyhow, your website is 'under construction'.

I think you should get in touch with Sheen Services (www.sheenservices.com) for getting your certificates attested.
