dohandoha - there are lot of articles on this website which list out cost of living for an average single. Do some research yourself and then if you have any specific queries you may post them

Learn about your salary package before you come here and then you may discuss this on QL to get some feedback – better still discuss with your father’s friend. Is this your father’s friend’s company?

Note the following :

You might accept the salary package cause you’ll convert it to rupees and feel happy about it (again depends from which part of india you are from). Cost of living is high in Qatar. Take into account the probable cost of living, what your salary package comprises of and then make a decision.

Once you’ve accepted the offer and your Resident permit has been processed you will not be able to join another competitor firm (if you get a better offer etc). NOC ‘s are not givin easily by most private engineering co’s. It would be more difficult for you considering your father’s friend offered you the job.

Do a background research of the Co. you are joining. Again QL helps as there are wonderful people here. Do listen to all and make your decision. Some will tell you that min salary you should ask for is QAR 10,000 +. Let me be honest with you – I know EPC’s co’s who’s allround package is around QAR 3,000 – 5,000 (they provide accommodation (family) and shared accommodation for bachelors).

I’ve known engineers who come here on a job offer accepted and leave within couple of months. However you are an fresher engineer and unless you are from the IIT’s/Good engineering college it will be difficult to negotiate for more. All the best and hope it works out for you
