Ministry told to control price rise

Several members of the Advisory Council and government officials have expressed the fear that the recently formulated law on human resources development will not benefit government employees if the prices of commodities and the general cost of living keep rising, says a report published in a local Arabic daily.
The new law provides for a tangible rise in pay scales and allowances for government employees as an incentive to improve the quality of work in the government departments.
The decision to increase the pay scales was taken after large scale representations from the government employees.

“The new law is a welcome move and it will no doubt improve the quality of performance of the government employees. But I must also say that this tangible rise in salaries and allowances will be of no avail if prices of commodities and the general cost of living continue to rise on a parallel scale.
“In order to check this trend I would like to appeal to the ministry of economy and finance to introduce suitable measures to control prices” said Hadi al-Khayyareen a member of the advisory council”.
He also expressed the view that the new law should be made applicable to the expatriate employees serving the government. They must be treated at par with the Qataris in order to ensure satisfactory job performance, he said
