If I've somehow missed a post that covers this, forgive me - but I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to transfer money to a bank account back in the USA, as it seems like the banks in Qatar don't link with the ones here - even HSBC can't do it. Any advice?
We makes this a simple and secure process. You simply need to provide us with your IBAN (International Bank Account Number), which your bank back home will be able to give you. Within a matter of a day or two you'll have your funds in your home country! You can even set up an account in Qatar in your home currency.
How much does it cost to send to a US Bank account if you go to a bank? Also, how long does it take to reach its destination? Is there a limit on how much can be sent each month?

Well, I have an account with HSBC here and they transfer money each month for me to my US bank account. If you have an account with HSBC, they should be able to do it-- talk to someone else. If you don't have an account there, probably better to go to Western Union or some money transfer place like that.
Here's something I just learned. Apparently in the last 6 months or so, it is technically impossible to DIRECTLY send money from a foreign account to a US bank account. Due to 9/11 security stuff, ALL money is screened (and charged $20!!) and sent through somewhere else (can't remember exactly where, I was too angry about getting charged $20 a month w/o warning). So part of your problem might just be that you aren't asking the right question (seems like in Qatar you have to already know the answer before you can ask the question)... So if you are asking if HSBC can directly link to your account in the US, the answer is NO. But, if you ask if HSBC can send money that will eventually reach your account in the US, the answer should be YES.
