A Paper Less Office – Myth or Reality?
Cluttered papers on the table, bulks of filed documents and lesser space in the office due to numbers of filing cabinets… so what is it all about???
I mentioned these things due to the idea that I read for the internet which titled stated above. This vision actually first talked about back in 1970’s, which is until now is to be achieved. This vision was created due to the impact of advance technology and it assumes that the paperless office can be created when paper files are replaced by digital files and digital documents. Our email inboxes now hold communications that before we received on paper. We are able to read newspapers through the Internet, our books are delivered to us and are read electronically; we also receive product coupons by email. Our choice for instant communications is increasingly being filled with the use of computers, PDAs, and smartphones.
Another way that offices are getting rid of large volumes of paper, is in the use of scanners. Digital records are created through the use of scanned documents, and the process is completed in a matter of seconds regardless of the size, shape or orientation of the documents scanned. The scanner can recognise logos, can categorise them, and the character recognition software allow for fast searching of scanned documents. More and more companies and governmental agencies are making use of scanned documents. The benefit of using scanned documents is, they are immediately available to anyone since they are stored on a secured server that allows access from anywhere. Unlike paper files, storage is never a problem.
I'm just wondering if this vision comes true, would it give full benefits to us?

It cant be paperless office ...at least in the near future......but surely less paper office...
The use of carbon paper has almost completely vanished from today's offices
Always remember that technologies are just tools to make our lives easier. Basically, they still need human intervention. YES, they can efficiently do what they can but again, their capabilities are STILL dependent on the cognitive capabilities of humans. Each technology follows a certain lifecycle: emerging, saturation and death. However, some do not experience the saturation period since they reach death automatically, this is usually common to software technologies. Come to think of this.. All information and communication technologies consider power/electricity as one commodity to make them work. Now what if there is a power shortage or interruption, what happens next? But I must say that Internet is a very powerful tool, however, it still has its own limitations. It's not actually the question of becoming digital or staying traditional 'cause fundamentally, they complement each other. One more thing, digitization of print materials is not the only way of preserving documents or saving space. Converting it into another format such as a microform is another option.
And personally, leisure reading for me means holding a book (print format) and sitting on a big couch.
UAVs came into existence why not paperless office?
So long as documents require 'wet' signing this will only ever be a pipe dream.
