QL Tips: Evaluating your job offer in Doha
So, your long job hunt is over with your final job offer letter from an international employer in Doha! Congratulations! But in the midst of all the excitement, celebrations and further plans, do not forget to do some "extra" work. Evaluate your job offer! Without this, your job search is not complete.
Moving to a new country like Doha is exciting for an expatriate. However, signing a job offer letter without evaluating all the details entailed in the offer is not advisable. This becomes even more important when you have a job offer from an international employer.
Even if it seems to be your only dream job, it is imperative to weigh its pros and cons to ensure it is the right fit for you and vice-versa.
Here are a few things that should be considered to evaluate your job offer:
Assess the salary: One of the key points every job seeker considers in the job offer includes salary information. While evaluating this, focus on your basic pay, payment mode, period of salary review, etc.
Market research holds a great importance to understand your worth. It also allows you to understand the average salary offered to other professionals with the same experience and qualification as yours.
List the basics: Apart from salary, other things constitute an important part of your compensation. These include the working hours, job responsibilities, probation period and the number of working days. The other general benefits like health and life insurance are important. Some companies offer employees with accommodation facility also. To live and work in a new country, it is vital to consider these factors to meet the cost of living.
Access the future prospects: Working abroad adds to your learning and global exposure. However, before accepting any job offer, do not forget to access your career trajectory, future opportunities, learning and job stability. If the job role offered includes all these, it is the right time to grab the offer.
Consider the working conditions: Working in a healthy work environment is vital for your personal as well as professional growth. Hence, if your employer offers work conditions that promote your loyalty to the company and productivity, the job offer is indeed a good one!
Apart from this, check if the company supports training sessions, educational workshops, and other learning & development sessions. If yes, you can definitely think about accepting the job offer.
Accepting the offer
Finally, if you are ready to accept the offer:
Follow up with the employer by sending an email. It should include your confirmation of understanding of the job details such as salary, joining date, title, position, duties, and benefits offered.
Include a 'Thank You' note to express your dedication and enthusiasm to accept the offer.
Declining the offer
If you cannot accept the offer:
Be professional and positive in sending the message. You may need to apply for any other position with this company in the future.
Send a letter that explains why you have chosen not to accept the offer now. Doing this, it creates an opportunity for negotiation.
Ensure to close the message with a 'Thank You' note for offering you the employment offer.
Taking some time off to evaluate any job offer is a right thing to do. After all, you would not want to land into an inappropriate job offer and cost your career!

From my perception Swati deals with high end recruitment and has no real idea of what goes on for the ordinary person
In theory, the article sounds great. However, when it gets down to nitty-gritty of the things, the entire story is a totally different matter. On the ground, the realities are far away from the that one gets to read in books, learn in classrooms and gets to gather through the social media.
nijesh: The simple fact is that its a case of supply and demand.. The supply outstrips demand.. Plus companies prefer Gulf experience for some reason ..
Wish you all the best
Well with the current situation I do not think that anybody would like to go with all these procedures...somehow people need a job. I have been struggling to find a better job from 3 months. I do not have gulf experience and Arabic Knowledge. May be this must be the reason, but my profile is strong. Now thinking of moving out. Its hard to survive without a proper income. I had great hopes, but my time seems to be bad : (
@WT: But Molten says that the Sponsor is our guardian and asking for an NOC at the start sends the wrong message to our benefactor
Your sponsor is NOT your father and friend, he is your exploiter.
Never sign a contract if the company refuses to give you a written statement about NOC!
The most important issue would be to enclose the NOC in the contract!! - But, I've said it already a hundred times before.
The key aspect is Give yourself an idea of the package you will be happy with - Don't be swayed by what others are getting or think you should get
