DOHA: Expatriates who work under personal sponsorship are now allowed to work with companies owned by the same sponsor and a transfer of sponsorship is no more required in such cases.
Similarly, those working under company sponsorship can work in the house of that company’s owner and the employees will not be considered as working outside the ambit of their legal sponsor.
These and some other categories of workers have been exempted from the general rules regarding transfer of sponsorship, according to amendments in the sponsorship law, introduced by the Ministry of Interior. The amendments were made in response to a request from the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) in the interests of private sector companies and employers in the country. The trade body hailed the move. The exempted categories also include domestic workers who are under personal sponsorship. They can now change the houses in which they work as long as they belong to the same sponsor.
Similarly, people working with a company can be legally transferred to any of its subsidiaries without changing the sponsorship and vise versa.
However, if a person wants to work with another company where his/her legal sponsor is only a partner, the employing company should give a written commitment that the employee’s status will be legalised within a specific time frame. If the employer fails to fulfill this commitment, it will be considered a violation of the regulations.
The ministry said the amendments were made “considering the important role played by the private sector in the development process” in the country.
Welcoming the ministry’s gesture, senior QCCI officials said the amendments would save the time and money spent by private companies in completing the formalities for a change of sponsorship.
“The amendments have come in response to our request. The Ministry of Interior has always been considerate to our demands and has been very co-operative,” Al Sharq daily quoted QCCI chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani as saying

both the parties (employee & employers) would benefit from this ,,, but for sure now the employers will take the most advantage...!! at times a single employee will have to work in all the companies owned by the owner..! LOL

Both parties are benefitting to some extent, with the sponsor benefitting the most.
