“Wow, you are in Qatar!? That’s great! You are so lucky, you can watch the World Cup now. Heard they have lovely stadiums..."

This is one of the standard sentiments expats in Qatar would come across these days when they go back to their homeland. It is true, they have some spectacular stadiums in Qatar and when it comes to watching the FIFA World Cup 2022, other than not having to spend big on travel and stay, Qatari residents also enjoy an advantage in ticketing as well as some category tickets for some matches at least would be reserved for them.

But there are plenty of other reasons to find a job in Qatar, which is a cool place to work and live.

Like most Gulf countries, Qatar has been a land of dreams for a lot of Asians, especially from the subcontinent, for the last few decades. And as Qatar widened its horizons, it became one of the favourite places for the rest of the world too to work in.

Here we take a look at some of the reasons why Qatar is one of the best places to work in.

Opportunities

Qatar is a nation on the move. The Qataris are nearing the culmination of their dream project, the 2022 World Cup, but they have already set more beautiful targets, like the Qatar National Vision 2030. Qatar will remain a big player in sports, and besides a busy calendar which is stuffed with top international events, it will host the 2030 Asian Games. Qatar has also placed bids for 2027 Asian Cup football and the 2032 Olympics.

All this means that there are opportunities aplenty in the land of bounty, from that of labourers to top executive positions, especially in the field of construction, technology, and petroleum. There are also ample opportunities in academics, sports and many other fields.

High income

The first thing that attracts employers to Qatar is undoubtedly the hefty non-taxable paycheque. The pay scale in Qatar is one of the best in the world and that it is non-taxable makes it an irresistible proposition. These two factors, combined with the vast opportunities make the country a dream destination for job seekers from around the world. There are also medical insurance for the employees and their families, gratuity and all other benefits as per Qatar labour law.

Health facilities

Medical care in Qatar is ranked among the best in the world. All residents with a health card are eligible for free or subsidised medical care at Qatar’s government hospitals and health centres, which are spread across the country. Medical care is also provided for visitors with emergencies. Qatar’s health facilities and medical care helped it put up a commendable show in tackling COVID-19 without even going for complete lockdowns. And on top of this, most companies in Qatar provide comprehensive medical insurance to their employees.

Standard of living

With breathtakingly beautiful residential projects such as Lusail City, Pearl Qatar and Msheireb Downtown Doha, and plenty of apartments and housing complexes, independent villas and villa complexes offering budget as well as luxury options, Qatar ensures an amazing standard of living for its residents. The country also has well-planned cities with all amenities including top international schools and colleges and health care facilities. Meanwhile, huge highways and dizzying network of flyovers and underpasses facilitate a smooth flow of traffic, ensuring hassle-free travel for its residents.

Products from around the world

From Porsche’s latest stunner Taycan to Japan’s Wagyu beef a wide range of products from around the world is available in Qatar. The capital city Doha has huge shopping malls housing top international consumer and fashion brands in all nooks and corners, so that people from all parts of the world, from Brazil to Australia, can easily find their favourite products in the Qatari markets. There are also all types of cuisine - Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, French and many more available in Qatar that you don’t miss your home food no matter where you are from.

Peaceful country

With high political stability and low crime rate, Qatar has always been a peaceful country to live in while strong, timely measures from the authorities have made sure that it will stay that way. There are no political protests, crowd troubles or anything of that sort. Even though the weather is hot in summer, the winters are as pleasant as they get with temperatures between 10 and 25 degrees celsius.

Cosmopolitan culture

The presence of a number of nationalities from all continents allows employees in Qatar to develop a cosmopolitan way of life and embrace all cultures. In Qatar, you will see Arabs, Asians, Europeans, Africans and South Americans working together and supporting each other. So if you have worked in Qatar, you will have no problem adjusting to any workplace culture.

The World Cup

As if these are not enough, consider this. You could be hosting your football-loving friends in your place just under two years from now when the World Cup comes to town. The FIFA World Cup, arguably the biggest sporting show in the world, has been Qatar’s dream for the last ten years since they won the bid in 2010 and they are in the final touches as far as preparations are concerned. So if you are a football fan, you don’t need another reason to be working in Qatar.
