al ijarah taxi fare changing at signals

Yesterday i have taken Al ijarah taxi from place A to place B. I have observed that the fare meter is clocking when car stopped at signals. I have checked with driver about the same. He told me that it is automatic. Can anyone help me, I did not observe this in all taxis. Are there any fare rules for wait times at signals

the meter will keep increasing but at a much slower rate you should notice the person when you stop at a signal he will press a button
I think so last time i was in a taxi he did it like that and was quite a long time ago
first time to board a taxi with a meter? ahihi!
It is correct that meter will run during when the car will be stopped at the signal, that is the normal procedure, when in signal the waiting period charges will deployed and when u have occupied the taxi you should pay for the entire journey, even if u are in traffic jam.
