Because the IOC asked for tenders to hold a sporting event in August, and Doha offered one in November...

No Body wants to talk about the real Issue..LACK of CIVIL liberties is one of the main reasons, look how people around the world are making a fuss about Beijing Imagine if Qatar have got the Olympics. Just small example of Lack of civil leberties in the Gulf. Single men are not allowed to enter the mall, Cornische or any parks on a Friday???

Can someone tell me only one real reason why this should happen here in Qatar ?

I a country where labour workers are still treated like slaves. A country with no infrastructure. No organizational skills. A country where pedestrians have to care about their lives. A country where foreigners don't feel very welcome. Where the climate in summer is similar like a steam sauna. A country which has nothing to offer to tourists.

Come on please. Get back to reality. You can't buy everything for money.

Qatar does not have the infrastructure to deal with the extra people and traffic that this event would create.

If the government develop the country properly (create roads BEFORE buildings, not like Dubai!) then Doha 2020 is a possibility.

I guess the main reason would be due to the fact that they would increase the cost of living in doha like rents, food etc. If we won the 2016 Olympics the cost of living would go up even further like what happend in 2006. A couple of my friends had a real hard time manageing thier resources. So i guess all is well..

Well if we had Olympics around here the athletes would need to spend like 10 hours on the roads to reach an event with all the traffic it would generate...

I would guess its because of the really hot weather in this country. I'm not sure what month the summer Olympics is in, but if its July or Ausust, can you imagine how worn out the athletes will be in Qatar's heat? They wouldnt be able to perform to the intensity they are probably capable of. Its just not feasible to hold the summer games in these conditions.

Its just an assumption though - i do still hope they bid for the 2020 games and get it!
