Living costs

Hi,

Sorry, I posted a msg below about this, but looking for some more thoughts please. I apologize if I offend anyone.

Will be moving shortly to Doha. Housing paid for by employer (including utilities but I'm not sure if ALL utilities fully paid for).

I'm trying to figure out what my savings can be:

Family situation: Wife (stay at home mom), 2 kids - 4 year old and 1 month old.

Lifestyle: simple. No huge extravagant spending. 2-4 dinners out per month (not hotels, just decent restaurants). May buy TV, DVD player, etc no plans to spend huge on electronics/luxury items but do plan to live "well". That is, good clothes, etc.

Travel: one round trip ticket to home country paid for. Other than that, may take 1-2 more local (ie middle east) trips.

Cars: will have 2 cars - will get a 1000 QAD travel allowance for ALL car usage. Looking to spend no more than 110-120 QAD for both cars.

Can I get some thoughts on what food (groceries), cell phone, car payments (120 QAD total loan), eating out, clothes, etc will cost me? Any other common expenses I have missed?

I can say that, apart from the obvious rent issue, the cost of living here is quite reasonable.

I'm finding it slightly cheaper than Dubai and much cheaper than my home, Sydney.

If your housing and utlities are taken care of, then that is your major expense taken out of the equation.

One thing i don't have any knowledge about is schooling/childcare, given you have a one year old and considering perhaps your wife might want to investigate costs of hiring nanny or nurseries.

Just on the rent issue though, I have to say that value for money wise, Doha is slightly ahead primarily because employersare still willing to pay accomodation allowances.

I was living in a huge three bedroom apartment in Dubai BUT had to share two two others because companies there no longer pay accomodation allowance. That was costing is 135,000Dhs a year.

In Doha I am looking at 2 bedders for 7-10,000 amonth, meaning I can live by myself, have my own space and generally have a better lifestyle.

Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

food (groceries)-- dis wont cost u much campared to ur sal.

cell phone-- its 200 QR for the sim card if prepaid and the call charges are ok

car payments (120 QAD total loan)-- taking the 120,000 is for both the cars means ur payment approx for each month for both the cars wil be lik 3600 QR but u better chk out some bank site the loan calc is available online.

eating out-- depending on which country food and type of resta

clothes-- it also depends on wht brands u want to buy.

but i guess 22k u should be more thn ok.
