hi there,

Read some of the topics in this forum but havent seen anything related to my qeury.

I am presently in singapore and am planning to move to qatar by feb 08. I intend to take a tourist visa then just look for a job there.i have my masters degree and have 12 years of working experience as manager in sales , admin and marketing.

Can you share a thought on my plan? Is it possible for me to find job there? If it is, then how much should be the monthly salary for me to live a decent life?

BTW,can u give me an idea how to easily get qatar visa from Phil aside from me having to go to their embassy directly?

Thanks so much and hpe to receive insights from you.

bracket means, in your field.

if your business visa will be issued, you will need to have this one submitted to the Qatar embassy in the Philippines together with all rest requirements, i.e. medical from accredited clinic, passport copies and undertaking letter from your sponsor for them to issue you a certification which you will need upon travel date (at the airport itself). Qatar Visa certifications is issued one (1) week prior to date of submission. (Approach DHL for this--they are authorized to do this--just pay the fee)

if you will come on a work permit, this will be required to pass through what we know as POEA.

hope this will help.

Think more before moving into Qatar and coming on a visit visa, currently the government change its visa policies for people coming over on a business or visit visa, or we can say...airport visa.

House rents are booming high and truly, a lot of people are suffering in handling this issue. You're an experienced person in sales (12 years in a good thing), Qatar is a small market, usually they are taking people on this bracket who comes in an Arab speaking country. But there's no harm in trying, just saw a lot of people suffering over here, taking chances on the same visa they are handling.

Visa to qatar coming from Phils will still require you to pass through certifications of the Qatar Embassy in Dasmarinas Village in Makati.

Hope this would help... let me know if you require any more.

There has been high inflation this year due to the Rents rocketing, there is no real justification for it but it's happening.

Depending on what standard of living you are used to you can get by with a normal salary .

I agree with you gemsingapore... As redundant as it may seem in the age of the internet, here in Qatar, theres nothin like knockin on the door and asking for a job. I think its bcos most of the SMBs here don't have proper HR divisions.

guess what... they have a website and there are actually a few openings there as well... all the best...

That should be the perfect scenario however in reality it doesnt work that way.

Its difficult to compete when you are far and cant come for interview besides when hired from another country, esp from a third world one(thru agencies) would mean a very low pay.

thanks a lot for the wishes... it will be a blessing for us

Regarding Ali Bin Ali,is there any website i can check on their job requirements?

How about Qatar coop? Is it big and prestigious?

By the way, 1 more concern. can you give me idea , in figures, how much should we have in our hands to safely stay in Doha for a month without a job? Say renting a room and food?

Thanks

To canarybird: Thanks for that. I had been to Dubai also and I know that the key is to get the right position in the company. I am positive we can work it out in Qatar but i just need some insights from you guys before coming...at least to hear the pros and cons... to be prepared

To Oryx: You sound scary but i guess with the way I worked in several countries before, I will make sure I am prepared before I leave and thats the reason why Im joining in here to get info from guys like you who are actually in the place. If we survived in Dubai and Singapore, with patience and dedication, i believe we can survive in Doha.

In singapore, even if you are qualified and the employer is eager to hire you, you cannot work unless the government says ok and the criteria for getting the approval from the government is very VAGUE and SUBJECTIVE and you could not even question.

I have three words for you... Ali Bin Ali... It owns about 80% of the retail market in Qatar, most of the big brands... There are a few others too. But if you and/or your hubby can make it into Ali Bin Ali, then everything will fall in to place on its own. I am saying this cos you are in sales and marketing and your husband is in the retail industry.

thanks for that.

we are actually preparing for the first 2-3 months expenses that will be incurred in our stay in Qatar.

We need to have time to find a good job coz they say we cant transfer if we are already binded by a contract. and the ban period is two years unlike Dubai its only 6 months.

My concern now is bout the business visa. can you give me idea n where can i possibly get it? any agency? And then, pls also give some insight on how much will we be spending in a month for a room and food while looking for the right job?

That is not true and there many Philippinas earning a lot more salary than I am so it is just if you find the right place in the Market.

In any case Doha is much prettier than Dubai by a longshot and is developing fastly (see the newly implement traffic rules) and most of the streets are now wider.

I would hate for Doha to be like Dubai it still has a little of that family atmosphere about it .

How will you pay your way whilst you are here?

Although you will find a job

a) it can take a lot of time

b) your salary won't be that much

c) it is fairly expensive here

you would save a lot of money by applying for jobs from where you are

the employers here will know you are desperate if you are on a visit visa so you won't be able to negotiate such a high salary and benefits

there are often cases of people who come here and then end up in debt without enough money to get home.

thanks for your thoughts.

i agree that opportunities in dubai are plenty but the standard of living has also gone up. in 2004 -2005, the survey said dubai was the 112th expensive city in the world but in 2006, it came in the 26th place in the most expensive city to live in. So you can tell how the standard went up.

I choose Qatar coz it is picking up, based on the survey.and I find it better to ask from you who are actually in qatar to verify some info.

If i still pursue in going to Qatar, you think I can find a decent job and company there? My husband will also be going and he has 17years of experience in retail industry.

Please give me some honest view on qatar living. We are very opimistic to move but we also need some feedbacks so we can effectively prepare ourselves.

Those from the Phillipines are not always treated very well here in Qatar. Your salary will be low even if you have a degree simply for the fact you are a Filipina. It's not fair, but for some reason that's just the way it is. This is from my experience with Filipino friends here in Qatar. Anyone else agree or disagree?

you're right hashin. I agree with you. My view point is that it's better to start somewhere that is growing at a rapid rate. I'm sure Qatar will acheive the level that Dubai has and for me, I'd want to have a strong footing in the market rather than going somewhere that is already developed.

For me, I came back for that reason, otherwise I would've headed to Shanghai (which is amazingly fun :P)

@chupa, if she's coming as a tourist, it'll be for 2 weeks. You can get decent hotels for a good price. Around 500 QR for the Mercure which is pretty nice and has a good location too.

However she could always look for a service apartment OR a short stay apt.

im a lady and im married.

don't know why but when i came to singapore i was thinking it would be a good place to work. I mean it could offer more than Dubai but was so disgusted that singapore doesnt have that much to offer. It is only full of HDB(housing) and hawkers that's it.

I feel like I could not even professonally grow here. Moreso, standard of living is very high.

I had been to Dubai for a year and just went home when we got married a year ago. my husband doesnt want to live in dubai anymore, thats why we are thinking of staying in Qatar.

Its just that this young man is in the field of sales and marketing. Dubai is a much bigger market and it would give much better exposure than in Qatar. Heck, whatever few MNCs with sales organizations are there in Qatar would probably have their Head Offices in Dubai...

If he were say a Chemical Engineer or a Doctor, I wouldn't have suggested Dubai... But pickings are thin in Qatar in the field of Sales and Marketing.

I always think it's funny how people send people off to Dubai here.

In Dubai it'll be more expensive, have a harder time of finding an apartment and it's already over-saturated (i.e. too much competition in the work place).

I'm working hard on the 'night' section to show the bachelors where to go when they're bored :P

Why don't you look at Dubai?

Your plan looks okay and it should be fairly easy to find a job in Qatar.

With 12 years experience in sales and marketing, you ought to target atleast 90K US$. Am not saying you will be inundated with those kind of offers but thats what you should be targetting.

Qatar is a decent place if you are married with kids. Bachelors get bored here.

Its also usually not very good career-wise because the exposure would not be anywhere near as good as say in Singapore.
