Qatar will amend its existing rent law to allow landlords to evict tenants with no prior notice if their property is needed for personal use or for their family.

The State Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the law changes, which also allows property owners to raise the cost of rent.

Under the new rules landlords will be able to increase rentals by suitably changing rent contracts, reported The Peninsula.

Currently, it is mandatory for landlords to serve a notice on tenants at least six months in advance to take back a rented property for personal use. However, changes are being made in favour of landlords.

This is very useful indeed. The alternative would be to use sprees.. either method is really compulsory I think..

Medea,

all these laws r for their own benefits, they dont give a f**k what we think or how the tenants will suffer.

Funny that you mentioned, I was tricked with those ads before stepping a foot here.

I couldn't believe the abysm between those ads and the reality I encountered here!

Has anyone seen the real Qatar? A big contrast with the CNN commercial which shows a country bustling with activity. One big joke! They can create all the laws they want for short-term gains but what will they gain long-term?

Landlords serving 6 months advance notice to tenant before evicting?

1. “..go-ahead for the law changes, which also allows property owners to raise the cost of rent…” and NOW the landlord can NOT increase the rent? Of course he (she) can. Not sure, but it is something like up to 10% a year (correct me if I am wrong). So what’s “new” about it?

2.“Currently, it is mandatory for landlords to serve a notice on tenants at least six months in advance..”. I never heard of any landlord who served or any tenant who has been served a notice 6 months in advance.. usually it is 1 or max 2 months…

well.. All that doesn’t really make sense to me..

Laws in this region are meaningless. They can be changed and even withdrawn at any time. This is an authoritarian regime and nothing we can do about it!

If that happens, all tenants will be living in hell...

Must almost all things pack for assuring you will make it to leave the same day the landlord says OUUUUUUT!
