salary evaluation
Hello everyone,
There are similar topics like this one but I wanted to get specific first hand info. I got an offer for a one year IT project as programmer at a daily rate of USD700(USD500 base+USD200 expenses). Is it possible to live decently (with wife and two kids) and spare money at this rate? What is the average rent for furnished apartments?
Thx in advance,
Ok, maybe my wording was wrong; sorry for that. I had searched the internet before placing my question but as I have written in my first mail i just wanted an up to date info because nowadays everything changes too fast with the high inflation rate all around the world and with ever fluctuating exchange rates. And when you are a family man with kids, such questions are even more important; i have to cover everything for myself and family if i decide to move there.
so, thx for all answers once more.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
Hey buddy, I really didnt know I was misunderstanding your question...I didnt think I was that dumb in English...come on mate...look at your question...I told your question was an absolute ridicuous and stupid one...only because what you are trying to emphasize about ...dude tell me one place or rather tell me whether you make that much now at this day...if you make that much money on a daily basis (700$) then I dont think anywhere else is a good place for you...
Seriously dude, I think I know much better about whether to ask a question or to answer a question...if you had whether 700$ is on a month I would have told you not to come here...since it is too less for a person who is moving from the States...but the question you have put my friend, I guess it is much better to search for a few answers...and then ask questions or rather may I put stupid questions like yours...
So my friend have a look at other questions being answered and then bark your questions out mate...
Cheers...and once again, I never have said you are stupid all I am saying is your question is absolutely stupid and meaningless...

My question was not how developed Qatar was but simply the cost of living. I really don't understand how some friends here got a totally wrong impression. I am sorry if i caused offence but please think twice or read twice before answering; or do not answer at all.
Ksarat; Qatar's being a strong economy makes my question even more important for me because that means prices (ie cost of living) are higher than most of the places around the world. I want to congratulate you especially for misunderstanding such a simple question.
Qatarisun....Yes I am from Chicago lol, but you have to see. When you make a gross of $21,000, thats not what you take home. In America, we have tax rates that come out to be about 38%. So if you do that math, you will find that $21,000 actually becomes $13,020. Now if you have a family of 4. You have a house with a mortgage around $3000.00, so that leaves you $10,000. Now generally health insurance is provided by company and taken out of salary. But you have Cars, Utilities, Food, Cell phones, etc. So you might save $1000.00 bucks at the end of the month. Thats how Chicago works =)
lol some people are claiming that a house and bills (i.e. electricity, water, phone) would reach 50k. You guys are talking out of your bums. I'm sorry to say that some people give rubbish advice on these forums.
I can't believe someone say that they'd spend 50 and that doesn't include tuition.
My father is renting a villa on the Lagoon on the west bay which is one of the exclusive areas for 30k. Even at that, he'd JUST hit 50k after EVERYTHING!
@miskat, I want to see your breakdown of how you reached 50k without transport, tuition, food, etc...
@star, if aboslutely everything is paid for as you mentioned, that means you end up with 1k in your pocket. If thats enough for you to live on (e.g. for fun and shopping) then go for it.
@everyone else, just remember that different people have different standards.

I think you are missing the point, read carefully chief, it is mentioned as a DAILY RATE OF USD 700, now please correct me if my English is incorrect...but this is what is asked, and what I have replied I will again continue to standby by what I said, this is a stupid question, and it is totally ridiculous...the guy who posted this needs to understand that this place named Qatar is a strong economy company and he is out of his brains unfortunately...
Alright Gracielane...take care and let me know if you still need clarification...
Cheers...

Where did you guys get the 75k? He said he made 700 USD a month and at 3.5 conversion rate, wouldn't it be 2450 riyals per month and 29400 a year? I'm just trying to figure out if I'm missing the math?
hi! i am new here.. please help me decide. i am being offered a job in coffee bean and tea leaf doha, qatar. the offer is US$310. the company will provide for our lodging, food, transportation and airfare. the US$310 is roughly 1,125 qatari riyals right? is it too small or will i be able to survive? i really don't know the cost of living in qatar.
could you like give me the price of a burger in McDonald's there in qatar!
thanks a lot and i hope you could help me!
You said it. This thread should be transferred to the "funnies" section.
Well said.

I think really you need to have your eyes and brains checked with a Doctor...
Don't keep on justifying that this guy is getting that as a package....I think we all are quite competent in unerstanding the language quite well...This guy's question is stupid, ridiculous, and on top of that, your justification makes you even more foolish...
Seriously get a life people, ask questions which you think are really worth it...
You are talking about Qatar and not any other 3rd world country where the currency is very weak...
Next time before you ask a question, have a random search for similar kinda questions and then if you are not satisfied still with your search results, then ask, but don't shut off your brains and ask questions...
Again, nothing personal against anyone, and no offence intended...
But I would like to restate that the gentleman here Kane who has asked this question and all others who have actually gone ahead and justified his questioning, wake up, use your brains, and talk sense...not NONSENSE...
Cheers...

a very good deal and compares with directional drillers on contract work. Enjoy Qatar
Oh my God that is money or leaf tree
don't forget to give me some amount if you can't spend your money
nice last night
was a bit slow in response only one cup of coffee this morning.
if you do the math based on the current exchange rate based on a 26 day working month then convert into riyals then he will average roughly 65000 riyals a month as he says that, that is all inclusive which i take to mean that he has to pay his own rent, water, electricity, phone, ect,ect so then you remove this from the monthly figure which leaves him with an average of around 25000 - 30000 riyals a month that doesnt take into consideration schooling , and every day living expenditure (food transport ect, ect.)
21000 USD is gross...and after paying for house rent / car / airfare / schooling etc....saving will be around QR. 25000-30000 per month as Mis-Cat said......but again that is also not a small amount if all that is saving.
[img_assist|nid=54691|title=|desc=Wherever you live; live everywhere.|link=none|align=centre|width=|height=0]
what do you mean,"will be left with take home of roughly 25000 - 30000 riyals a month"?... Won't he be "left with take home of roughly" 21000 US Dollar?
***********************
Whatever Turns You ON...
As he states that this rate is all inclusive by that i am assuming he has to pay for evrything as the company wont, so by the time you strip down the initial monthly figure considering all costs then he will be left with take home of roughly 25000 - 30000 riyals a month which is pretty good to live of here with a family.
Kane....did you check the stamp and postal address of your offer......make sure it is not from a mental hospital.......if not, please go and get a fresh checkup of your........man..your questions show...you are coming from Mars....
[img_assist|nid=54691|title=|desc=Wherever you live; live everywhere.|link=none|align=centre|width=|height=0]
you are welcome to ask anyhting but before you ask if you do a search most of the answeres you will find
Thx for all the answers.
I am all new to Qatar and started searching cost of living as this offer was made. I know nothing about this country. Through this forum I got the impression that especially rents are high. The rate is all inclusive so I have to cover all costs and things like insurance, flights myself.
Even ridiculous one must ask the necessary questions!! ;)
I will have to completely agree with KSARAT 16 for the right assessment of the guy asking such a ridiculous question!Good Work!
The salary mentioned by you is really good and you can actually save few bunbdles !!
I am not sure which company and what skill set of programmer gets this Salary... frankly speaking, they are Giving you the salary of BIZ Process Consultants.. and thats a good thing !!
Well.. wtz your skill set in programming ??
- Puneet
honestly,
what do you think, US $ 21,000 a month is enough or not???
it's US$ 252,000 a year...have to agree with ksa: are you out of your mind to ask this quesion?
MrChicago... you are from Chicagom, right? don't you know if US$ 252,000 a year it's kindda not too bad...ya'ni..
...unless, kane, you are going to work 2-3 days a month, and since it is a dayly rate, you may end up with couple of thousand bucks a month.. then better stay home..lol..
***********************
Whatever Turns You ON...
you will probably be getting more than the directors/managers of many Government Institutions.
Hey buddy, with all due respect to you, I totally understand yourconcern about asking about Qatar...
But seriosuly, think twice before you ask such questions...I mean how could you ask such a question...please buddy, you are going to work as an IT guy don't forget your brains...
Frankly...that is a veery very unfair question, as a few of many others...
QAR 74K is it enough, you out of your minds...how do you think that much isn't going to be enough in a place where the conversion USD is at a rate of QR 3.6////
People, have some basic brains before you ask questions of this sort...
Cheers..
Kane69: I repeat, nothing personal against you but your question is ridiculous...
Cheers...and take care buddy...

whether they provide benefits or not 75k is MORE than enough!

you are too greedy 3alloushi lol
it is a good offer... if u refuse it I will take it ... LOL
Hey Kane,
I think you need to be a little more specific. The exchange rate is abotu 3.5 Qatari Riyals for one $1. So you will be making around 74k QRs a month. This is around 880k QRs a year. Will they be providing housing? Insurance? schooling for kids? This info will help them assist you. They have beenr ealy helpful to me so hopefully they'll help you out too.
Good Luck.
