Salary vs expenses

Hello :)

I have been offered a position in Doha (Engineering) with a package of QR45,000/month plus car, tickets, medical, education and bonus. Now, I know that Qatar is expensive, so advice will be welcome. How much of that will I have to spend on accommodation? Looking for a 3 bed villa, preferably in a compound (but don't need pool/gym). Groceries for a family of 2? Entertainment? Club membership? Any other miscellaneous expenses I should know about? Many thanks in advance.

Groceries for 5k a month? ..... that's a bit lavish. prices a alot lower than that in Qatar, even for a family of 4.

Groceries for 5K for a couple??!! I mean 1250 a week..and another 2500 for eat out...

Common vjprachi...I don't think qalove's day job is eating. He might be working few hours and can spend only 4-5 hours a day, eating. Might also sleep in between when he gets tired eating.

I spend around 500 a week for groceires, we are a family of 4. And we do eat a lot of meat.

I agree the villa is on higher end. Right now, the prices had come down and you can find one for 15K

Thanks Aries! Strangely, I got a different idea, I thought compound villas were more expensive. Hmmmm... back to the Classifieds, then!

It all depends on whether you want a stand alone villa or not. Villas in a compound would be between 13 K and 17 K, but the stand alone villa's will start from 20K appr. And of course location is also a driving factor...

cheers

Thanks a lot, Intelligent and SBR! I see groceries are rather cheap - 2000 a month? Is that true? We eat quite a lot of fresh meat, fish and veggies. My calculations based on this forum were around 4-5k a month, great to know it's not as expensive as that. Villa seems to be a bit on the high end though - I can see ads for villas starting at 13k, is there something decent I could get for 15-18k? SBR, thanks once again for a detailed answer!

Here are my estimates:

Villa: 20,000

Groceries 2,000

Eat out 1,500

Entertainment 750

Club Membership 750

Utils 1,000

Maid 1,000

Misc. 1,000

------

Total 28,000

------

This is if you are living an upscale (non-Qatari) life here. You can still save 17,000. Easily....

Good Package. You should go for it. According to my knowledge you can have a decent style of living and in the same time you can save some money if you like.

Peace.
