Hey everyone,
I am very interested in moving to Qatar and am looking at jobs at Doha American School. Does anyone here work there or know anyone that does who can give me the skinny on what the school is really like? If any of you have advice about the country or anything to add to my "pros" and "Cons" list I'd love to hear from you. Would also be interested in finding out what people do for fun on the weekends. What is the dancing/music scene like? Looking forward to responses!! kat

Hi Kat,

I just wanted to comment on the shocked silence that followed your post!

People/fun weekends???? Ha, Ha, Ha! Funny.

Dancing and music scene??? Yeah right, I haven't danced a Pasodoble since I got here...

Anyways, I don't want to put you off. I really don't know anything about the american school, so can't help you there, but I hope someone else does.

Pros and Cons to live in Qatar:

(Now this is only my point of view, which of course can be different from others).

CONS:

* Wheather: You're looking at really hot temperatures. From April to September the heat is so extreme, you can only stay in-doors.

* Rents: Make sure your package includes accomodation. Otherwise you will feel qataris are giving you the money with one hand and taking it back with the other, and you will be stuck working working working.

Social life / enterteinment: Non existent.

Apart from the Corniche, which is gorgeous, Doha is a really unkept, messy city. There are holes everywhere. Traffic is a nightmare.

PROS: I'm sure there must be something, otherwise people wouldn't be coming here to work, I just havent' discovered them yet...

So, sorry I can't be much help but wishing you good luck and I hope you get a job with the american school.
