I am an expat, I have spent around 2 years in Kuwait and a year in Qatar till now.

So comparison wise,

1. Cost of living: Qatar has higher cost of living index as compared to Kuwait

2. GDP: Qatar has higher hand at GDP against Kuwait. So, higher earning opportunities exists.

3. Expats: Being Indian you would find Indians in both country to feel at home. Although Kuwait has more Indians is what I feel.

4. Social Life: Kuwait is not a place if you enjoy pubs and night life, that's what I can say comparing the two.

5. Temperature: Temperature is almost the same in both the countries, you can say Qatar is little more hotter in summers comparatively.

6. Safety: Both are safe but Kuwait is not that friendly as compared to Qatar.

I would say when you are an expat your main concern should be earning money & saving it. If you are not shifting your family and other things Kuwait can be slightly better.

Anyway choice is yours, best wishes.

For saving your hard earning money go to Kuwait. To spend your hard earning money come to Qatar. That's all. No need to describe more in details.

I spent 6 years in Kuwait

+ Roads are not under constant repair

- No public beaches

+ Central a/c everywhere

- land mines still evident

+ Cost of living

- No scenery

+ Better Shopping

- No (real) beer

+ Otherwise very liberal

- Arrogance of Locals

- Apart from invasions from the north, no real history.

- Corruption in Royal Family

- My ex is still there!

= Neither place knows how to behave in a cinema

Sorry, but the minuses outweight the pluses in my book.

well, let me tell u my experience, i have worked in kuwait for few yrs and now i work over here. few things they r ahead of qatar for eg, currency is stronger(pegged with Euro) roads r far better, cost of living is less especially rentals, Airport is better. many more hospitals private as well as govt. Lets also talk about the other side , Major kuwaitization in every field, Highly arrogant, no rules for a local.be it traffic or crime.and absolutely no pubs, bars or discos. End of the day we r all expats in which ever part of the gulf we r in.Make your money soon and leave this place.Good luck.

i lived in q8 for like 11 years before coming to Qatar. Yes, 'baldrick2dogs' is absolutely right, the locals there are the most, and the ultimate arrogant ppl i have ever seen. This attitude also is much evident in their driving habits.

On the other hand, if you can tolerate this, kuwait would be good as 'nothing but sand' mentioned about the advanced services, salary,..etc. I suffered alot in Doha to find for example stuff for home.

Kuwait is well planned in this: so when you want to service your car, you know where to go ( shuwaikh area), if you want to buy tools ( same area), electronics ( ghanim and eureka), haraj there is like 5 times bigger than here in Doha...etc.

There is almost nothing called split or window unit flats. It has been long time discarded, all new flats are central a/c, and rents are far much lower than doha.

As for the Indian community, errr hmmm ( i am egyptian), but i think there not much difference.

Hope this helped

Kuwait is far better. you can make more money in kuwait.

Cost of living is cheaper in Kuwait.

And kuwait is a developed country when compared to Qatar, which is still in a developing stage.

Qatar is better. Kuwait has no beer and Kuwaitis are the most arrogant of the GCC nationals ... and their driving sucks even more than here ;o)
