Working For Al-Jazeera
By Arab-American •
Hi there,
I'm considering an offer with Al-Jazeera English. I'm hoping someone can provide me with some insight as to what I can expect if I do accept the offer. More specifically, what sort of accommodations will they grant me (single)? What is the work environment like? Daily dress code? What kind of hardships can I accept to experience (at work and life in Doha in general)? Is there lots do in Doha? Is it expensive to travel in the region from Qatar? Etc...
Really, any insight you can provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
As Meet12345 has rightly said,,its no hassle at all having an exit permit specially from any MNC. They have a System Generated for this & it only needs a signature from your Line Manager & you can have your permit done within 2 minutes at Public Relations Dept.
Specifically AJE is 100% govt owned & therefore exit permit is very easily for any employee.
No. It is not difficult to get an exit permit. It takes few seconds to print it off from the HR department. Most of the employers give multiple exit permits based on the profession and grade of their employees.
Thanks LincolnPirate and Noms! I appreciate the quick replies. Your answers provide some useful insight.
I'm definitely not looking forward to the heat. 50 Celsius is 122 Fahrenheit here, which is totally unheard of!
Noms, is it true that I need an exit permit from AJE every time I want to travel outside of the country? And if so, is that exit permit difficult to get on a regular basis?
Accomodation (single) - Depends on your grade, but housing allowance provided are one of best = junior employee too enjoys a housing allowance of over 9k / month.
Work Environment - at AJE, you interact with colleagues belonging to almost everywhere in the world..its one of the most diversed workplace in the country. More Westerners at AJE.
Daily Dress Code - normally no dress code, however, i don't know what you'l be working as so its almost impossible for me to answer this.
Hardships (at work) - AJ is a great employer but you'l have to experience yourself to know your hardship.
Hardship (in life at Doha) - My pal LincolnPirate has already given you a hint.
To do in Doha - probably not even 25% of what people can do in the west but its a peaceful country.
Travel Expense in region - Its ofcourse more expensive than what you pay to travel in region @ UK .. but its still not expensive when you are enjoying tax free salary :)
The temperatures this summer are expected to be around 50 degrees Celsius. Traveling out of Qatar is only possible with an exit permit from your sponsor. Otherwise there is lots of sun, sand, and sea.
