Al Sadd - Yay or Nay

Hello,

I'm moving to Qatar and though about getting a short term rental for a month or so and was referred to Ezdan. A quick check on trip-advisor changed my mind quickly (is it really that bad?) and there a few other affordable options.

I'm now thinking about 4 days in a hotel and then jump into a rental. I've heard some good things about the el sadd area and have seen some promising 1 and 2 bed apartments with pools but without the benefit of google street view its a little difficult to get a real view of the area.

Do any QLers live there? Whats is like? Whats is like during the day? are there shops/restaurants? is there a mall? is it safe?

Thanks again for your help.

James

My name is Craig, MD of Mirage Property, a well established real estate agent here in Qatar.

We have a number of our own short term residential buildings, offering fully serviced apartments, for a minimum of 1 month lease. We don't have any short term in Al Sadd, but do offer 2 bed fully inclusive apartments in Bin Mahmoud, which is better located for travel to West Bay/Diplomatic Area and is close to Al Sadd area.

If you'd like a little more info take a look on our website www.mirageproperty.com and click on the 'short term' tab. It may also help with your search for longer term accommodation.

The majority of properties listed on the site have large view images & google map attached so you should be able to get your bearings in relation to the Diplomatic Area.

If you need any further info please feel free to come back to me or contact us direct through the website.

I look forward to us being of assistance.

Kind regards

Craig at Mirage

I think a smaller place in West Bay/Dafna might suit you better.

Al Sadd had its pluses and minuses. There are a few small supermarkets and access to larger hypermarkets is quite close by. West Bay (Diplomatic Area) is generally higher priced. Downsides to Al Sadd is the traffic but you should be able to navigate from Al Sadd to West Bay inside of 30 minutes on most days but you can't count on it (should take 20 or less usually but traffic dictates).

Upside to Al Sadd area is that you have several reasonable (read edible) restaurants and access to smaller grocery stores without needing a car. You will need a car to get to the Diplomatic area/

I think al Sad is the best place you can live in. In the middle of everything you need. I prefer it to living in the City itself.

AL Sadd has all restaurants, shopping you need and it is close to the airport, city and to many hotels in the area.

Good luck,

Central to where? I'm looking out my window right now and the traffic is bumper to bumper from Al Sadd Street to Sports Round about - and it's worse in the morning rush.

If you can give me an idea of where you will be working or wanting to be central to I might be of more help.

Thanks marycathrine, I will check them out. Any other suggestions for short term rentals in a fairly central location?

Le Park Hotel suites is in Al Sadd - near Sports Round About

You can google them to check out the charges, but I imagine they`re at least QAR7,500 per month

Most landlords would require a 12 month commitment. Al Sadd is OK - there are many small restaurants and a few supermarkets (small) - and small grocery stores (supermarkets here can be 10 by 10 m2 for the bigger ones. There are a few small malls but what westerners consider a mall are not included in Al Sadd but neither are they far away by taxi (or on foot if the temperatures are not too high).

If you want to get the lay of the land, look into "furnished hotel apartments" they are available in Al Sadd and would rent on a monthly basis giving you time to find a more permanent place.

"so distance is an issue here for sure azmat coz its hot ryt."

What i meant to say was that it's never an issue as everyone drives (can't live without a car)

Have you thought of shared accommodation? Makes your money go much further and as it happens I have a room coming free at the end of April! It's not Al Sadd, but it is in Al Rayyan less than 10 minutes drive away. Compound has much better facilities than come with many if not most 1 and 2 bed apartments. Currently, one Brit and one from Oz in the apartment.

Al sadd and done, you can decide for yourself when you come here. Distances are not an issue here, because in summer (which is most of the year) you can't walk 10 meters without sweating a bucketload.

An ideal place to live would be as far as possible from the city (but still within 30-40 min drive from work).
