Are there houses without cockroaches?

Hi, We am new to Doha and we have a 10 month old baby. We live in a part of a villa near Al-Hilal. There are lots of cockroaches in my house and we tried a lot to get rid of the cockroaches especially because we have a baby. With a crawling baby at home, we are not able to use cockroach balls etc. We tried closing all the holes in the doors, wall etc and we spray the insecticide available whenever we find a cockroach (but only if there is no cooking utensil/ food item in the vicinity). The cockroaches are happily hiding under the washing machine, in the shelfs etc and they start working once we switch off the lights at night.
Now that we dont know what to do, we are thinking about shifting to another house. But people are saying that there will be cockroaches everywhere in doha and that we wont be able to find a house that has no cockroaches. We need a 1 bedroom house at 3500 to 4500 QR. Is not it possible to get such a house in Doha in Al-Hilal, Matar Qadeem area etc without cockroaches? Request you all to give ur opinion on this.

Awww...This is what you do:

2 tbsp of Boric Acid powder (in the pharmacy dept at Lulu/Safeer)

2 tbsp of Nido milk powder

2 tbsp of all purpose flour

2 tbsp of sugar

Mix in a bowl and add water to make either a thick paste or a dough. If you have made a dough, shape into balls and place in high places. If you have made a paste, spread it into disposable container lids (the lids from yogurt tubs work well) and place in high places (i.e. on top of kitchen cabinets, on top of your bedroom closet, in the washroom where the baby cant reach, etc.) The more the better...this gets rid of the small cockroaches. Other than this, keep the kitchen insanely clean and don't bring food into the rooms.

This problem is more common if you live in a villa on the GF. If you're in an apartment that's fairly new, this doesnt happen as much...

And yes..there are very few apartments available in our price range...still looking though :)

Good luck...

There was a similar question 2 weeks ago regarding cockroaches and like you, i have the same problem. Thanks to QLers i went to buy REK ROK (QR23) and another tube gel(QR19) at Family Food Centre. Within 5 days almost all the cockroaches are gone. Try it and if you think it doesn't work in your place then you can find a brand new flat. Goodluck.

You will be able to find a good house for you ,maybe it will be a bit expensive then what is your budget and if you are lucky you can find it at a resonable price and without any guests!!!!!

You need a new building flat and to take care of it!

Best of luck .

You can call pest control, but it usually won't last long. You'll need to have em spray every 2-3 months.

If you do shift, shift to a house that is at an upper level and not the main level/ground floor.

Usually less roaches on upper levels.

If there is one thing i hate its cockroaches so I can fully understand what you are saying... you will never find a house that has NO cockroaches at all... what you need to do is to get your house professionally sprayed where they give you a 3 month guarantee and then you need to ensure that this is kept up every 3 months. It is the only way you can ensure your house will be cockroach (and other insects free).

I dont know how much it costs there to have it done but here it cost BD 20 (around QR 199) but its well worth it believe me....
