Are you a musician?
Hi,
I hope you are all fab, I'd be really grateful if anyone has any info on the following :)
I wasn't sure which area to post this, but I was wondering what the local independent music scene was like in Doha. My initial thoughts would be that, if there is one, it is in its early stages.
Anyway, I am a keyboardist and drummer and when I arrive in Doha insha Allah I was hoping to meet other musicians, when I am away from work. I'd really like to get a band together. If it's not possible to perform anywhere, then it'd just be nice to play together in a practice studio.
Are there any muso's reading this right now?! Please feel free to get in touch. Also, is there anywhere where bands advertise for other musicians or anywhere where they congregate or something? Finally, are there any gigs by local bands that I can go and see?Â
Thanks and all the best to everyone.
hi there. im a drummer and i would like to jam with fellow musicians. where can i find jamming groups?

There's a lot of music here, though not as much as there used to be so there's room for more. Chris Coull (above mentioned) has a website that lists most forthcoming big gigs. See http://www.qatarmusic.co.nr/. Bands play in the big hotels and, less regularly, at Garvey’s & The Rugby Club. The Doha Players also try to host music evenings, though they don't have a regular venue at the moment.
I listened to your clips, I think your music's great. I'll be happy to see you round in Doha!
Hi Melissa,
I just listened to your clips, you make an awesome sound, I would love to play with you hopefully somehow we can all arrange a big huge massive jam session round that time, we need to turn this thread into some kind of "sticky" or something to keep track of all the musicians who are interested in meeting up
chat soon
I'm a musician:

and I'll be there this fall, so it would be great to have other musicians to jam and gig with.
Tricky...
I guess it's time to ask the query ''does anybody know any music rehearsal studio in Qatar?''
Stashman, we'll stay in touch, I'll send you an e-mail soon.
cool stuf man, looking forward to it! Now all we have to do is find a rehearsal studio! stay in touch ok? (my email is above)
Sorry about that, I really don't know how I did it!
As soon as I buy a bass (end of October inshallah) I'll ask you for a jam session!

Hi my friend thanks for replying, it's great to hear from you.
I'm due in Doha any time now just waiting for my work permit to go through. Perhaps we can chat more on email? my address is [email protected]
hope to hear from you and all the best to you
Hi,
Good to hear there are other musicians moving to Doha. I'm an experienced guitarist/vocalist who has just moved to Doha. I am interested in putting together a group in the near term, once I am settled. I am open to playing just about any format. I would think there would be good venues in Doha to perform (cafes, restaurants, etc..), considering all the growth in the city. Let me know how to get in touch.
Thanks
Thanx for replying Angel it's great to know there are musicians out there! Hopefully we can be help nuture a good live music scene in Doha. I'm currently waiting for my work permit to come through and when I get to Doha and find my bearings I'll be sure to get in touch :) thanx again madam and take care
There are lots of really talented folks here, who have already formed themselves loosely into bands, one in particular that includes a guy called Chris Coule (Kris Kool !! would be a better name). They play everything from jazz to rock to classical. Included are percussionists, keyboards, brass, string - [inc electronic violin/fiddle] etc,. They have a bunch of v. good singers too. And depending on the venue, will re-form themselves to match the fee of the gig. Get in touch with them, and they will surely put u onto the conveyor belt of who else is around, or call me on 5206824, and I'll give you his number.
Hopefully though, a few more folks will come out of the woodwork.
A few years ago I had a session at my house, and there was a couple of guys from big name bands who are now working a normal job for a living here in qatar. We get them all here!
