Dogs in Doha

Hi,
I'm considering working in Doha and relocating with 2 elderly dogs. My job will include a fair amount of travelling.
What are the dog care options over there?

Any dog related advice is much appreciated!

Many thanks

You NEED one? Or you want one?

If you want a daschud then you would need to buy one abroad and have it imported into Qatar. Puppies entering Qatar need to be over 4 months old, fully vaccinated and have import permits, healther certificates and be booked to arrive late at night. All in all it will cost QR5,000 - QR10,000 depending on where you are getting one form.

Word of warning though - don't just buy the cheapest puppy online. The last 2 daschunds that were bought online from india were a disaster. The female died from parvovirus within 3 days of arriving and the male is severely deformed.

The Vet Surgery, which is the practice's actual name, you can't fit peanut into their kennels they are so tiny... and as far as I am aware, they don't walk the dogs there because they are in a residential area and aren't allowed too...

I can recommend their vets though, the lovely ladies there are very good with the animals....

However there is another vet in town called Qatar Vet Centre whose service and boarding facility is a better standard, although again, they are in a residential area and aren't able to walk their dogs

You won't get better relocation service than Qatar Pet Relocators... The lady really cares for the animals and is there from the beginning with answers to your questions to being the one who will pick up your pets from the airport and dropping them off at your home. She also has a boarding facility that is quite sort after as its on a farm and has plenty of place to walk the dogs... however it only has limited facilities for dog boarding and is always fully booked long before summer has even started.

Hope this helps.

I've had my 2 dogs (labs) with me here in Doha since Oct '09 (imported them from the US on KLM cargo). You can get very good care at Doha Vets (www.dohavets.com). They have sufficient boarding and charge 50QR/day per dog. Each dog gets his own kennel and they obviously take them out and all that. I haven't actually left them for boarding yet, but I will be doing so next tuesday and again in early August. I have, however, used their services for vaccinations and importing assistance. They came highly recommended for all services.

There are kennels, but they tend to fill up at holiday times. Your best bet might be a liv-in housekeeper who would care for the dogs in your absence.
