My husband is going to qatar soon for a business trip. However, as we are not familiar with the qatar culture, we would appreciate it if anyone can let us know the do's & dont's in arab culture.
Tried to google it but didn't find any helpful link:(
There's nothing to worry about as this is like Malaysia.Just don't take photo's without permission, ask an Arabic lady for directions, sit with the soles of your feet pointing at your host and don't use your left hand.Dealing with Arabs, you should always greet them first,as it's impolite to start a conversation or request without a greeting.Easy...!It's not Saudi and you should feel like you do back home in Malaysia.Good Luck!
MJ just read the Jasmimejasmine thread so thought I better advise on Dress code..
has anyone ever noticed on every dorr of every mall there is warning sign advising to dress decently.. I only found out today after Oryx mentioned in the other thread.
O yes please tell your husband to not work around walking in shorts in Malls (specially the tight short ones like hot pants).. Coz the local guys get exited here.
"Saudi Arabia is the home of Islam; therefore prayers are followed strictly, 6 times a day - Early morning (dark o'clock - you'll probably never see this one), Sunrise, midday, afternoon, sunset and evening, obviously times change throughout the year. For those Moslems found standing around the streets during prayer time, there is the Muttawa (religious police) who will round up ne'er do wells and pack them off to the mosque. Their other tasks include deciding what is (or not) "haram" (against Islam), therefore you will find a lot of censorship and odd items missing from shelves.
Baldrick the link says paryers 6 times a day. I thought that it was only 5 times a day. Do they pray one time more in KSA compared to the rest of the muslim world?

Yes, you can smoke in hotel bars and some restaurants.
Smoking in cars or out of your car is permitted, as well.
There are people that even smoke in places that clearly display a NO SMOKING sign....but those are mostly locals in coffee places in the malls.
Can you smoke in hotel bars & restaurants or the clubhouse bars generally?
What about smoking in your car or other public places?
