Eid Ul Fitr and preparations

Eid-ul-Fitr is coming up soon and Muslims are making preparation to celebrate it with prayers followed by the great feasts. The festival is also referred to as the ‘Festival of Fast-Breaking’ where you see a great rush in markets the day before the festival. This is when people shop for gifts, clothes and sweetmeats. Eid-Ul-Fitr also signifies the payment of obligatory charity, fitrah. Being the festival of charity, the poor, ailing and orphans are remembered and are relieved by Muslims who give donations, kindness and love generously.

The morning of Eid finds all Muslims attending morning prayers after which everyone wears their best. Men wear new preferably white clothes, surma, perfume and a white or colored topee to complete their attire. Women wear beautiful clothes and embroidered shawls along with accessesories. After eating a special Eid preparation of milk, sugar and vermicelli, the male attend special prayers at the mosque.

The mosques are packed on Eid-Ul-Fitr where rich and poor stand together in front of their Creator to cement the bond of affection and brotherhood of Islamism by hugging each other and greeting ‘Eid Mubarak’. The rest of the day is spent visiting relatives and friends to exchange greetings and gifts. Children look forward to Eid-Ul-Fitr as they receive Eidi in the form of cash or gifts from elders. Radio stations play popular ‘Qauwwali’ while the television screens progams with Muslim flavor. Besides Biryani, meat and chicken Kababs, kulfis, faloodas, pulaos, Shawai and other delicacies are prepared. All friends and relatives participate in the joyous, and traditional celebrations of Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Eco-savvy a daily wage muslim labour in my vicinity back home comes up to me and complains about how he has to support his parents,an ailing wife and 6kids with only a meagre daily wage of 100 Rupees each day but mind you he is unemployed most of the month during the rainy season. He lives off on about 1200-1500Rs.PM.I have travelled widely practising in villages of the NE of India where the region is so hostile and the weather inclement that some muslims havent even seen a date ever.Yet they fast and offer namaz.Be practical and be aware of the facts that I had also not seen a date until I was 12 years old considering that I grew up amidst people who themselves had nothing better but home made rice cakes to eat and serve...even to break fast. Please help those poor people who are famished, illiterate and live upon one meal a day.Visit the remotest hills and terrains of NE and man open your eyes.

price of dates Pack. Dates are now available in every nook and corner. If you had any love for Your Prophet sallahu alaihiwassalam then you will follow his Sunnah.

Follow the Sunnah then ofcourse eat seveyaan/custard or Karela Kheer its your choice

without dates? in Ramadan dates are sold by hawkers on road, and they are dirt cheap. Your Seviyaan is garnished with Pistachios, cashewnuts, almonds, sultanas? if you can afford seveyaan you are telling me dates are luxury?

Eco-Savvy No doubt dates are mentioned, but in places where dates are in dearth and considered a luxury ,do you think our prayers and fastings will go waste? If you can then venture out to some countries with muslim minority and beleive me even without proper sehri and ifter or juicy dates they are carrying on with their duty with sweetened sewaiyaan or home made sweets. Its not an argument but open your eyes and see that everyone is not equal.Understand humanity and also understand the cultural differences!
