Final departure banking
Is it normal for banks to deduct QR42600 from your current account to guarantee possible credit card purchases. I cancelled my cards 45 days before final departure and the balance is zero. I had a credit balance and still have 2 more salaries and 9 years ESB to process through the account. Queries at the bank have been fruitless.
mary... said is all right. Pay a visit to your bank.
On another subject matter since you are leaving town...when cancelling your Qtel phone number, make certain that you retain the original proof of paying all dues.
If you travel, the roaming charges are sometimes late. This occured to someone I know that ended up receiving legal warning from Qtel via their old doha box number. This could have harmed re-entry into the country for visits etc.... The mail was fortunately passed on and which ensured that it could be sorted by means of paying and showing proof of final payment.
Some banks require as much as 3 months (90 days) notice before dropping the holding of a balance in the account. I would go and talk to the branch manager, it is not reasonable (and indeed is not ethical IMHO) to hold funds when the card was cancelled 45 days ago and no new charges have been received by the bank.
Reason with them and if the branch manager won't cooperate go to the Manager of Retail or Credit Operations.
