The home country is the USA and I've been trying to find out if my handicap placard from my home State is acceptable here and if not where can I obtain one? thanks
Probably not, but people don't seem to worry about whether they have a disabled badge or not. There are cars without badges parked in the disabled bays nearly every time I go to a mall.
Anyway, it shouldn't be too hard to get a badge once you're here.
You will have to check with the Traffic dept. at Madinat Khalifa. The section which is issing these is located immediately as you enter the main gate on the right hand side.
There are two types of handicap placards in Qatar:
1. If you are handicapped and drive.
2. You are a handicap but do not drive (use a driver instead)
In both cases you can be issued a parking placard. However, the documentation requires that you get a letter from a competent authority (like the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation and Special needs).
I doubt that the US placard would be acceptable here. A GCC placard is acceptable though.
The best way to find the procedure and documentation required is to contact the Traffic dept.
