Hi there,

I am moving to Doha in 5 weeks to start my new career. What I am worrying about more than anything is the summer.

I wondered how everyone got through their first summer without toppling over? Obviously everyone likes the sun but 50+ seems like it would provide an insurmountable challenge.

Any tips would be welcome

I agree that the temperature gets above 50C only on very rare occasions. I can think of very few occasions over my 17 years that it reached 50.

The figure does appear to be bandied about a lot.

I was fine for 2 summers in 50+ degrees, some days even with the a/c. No probs. Parked self in Villagio. :P

I'm not sure that I've seen the temperature over 50deg in Doha but I've certainly seen 49-50degC on several occasions but most days its 45-48degC. Anyway its not the temperature thats the killer but the humidity. Normally you see the temperature is higher when humidity drops and temperature is lower when humidity is higher.

dweller the heat index is above 50 C almost throughout July & August. The temperature as such doesn't go above 50 too many times.

days does Doha hit over 50C.

Not that many I think.

I'm not saying it doesn't get hot but 50C?

In the middle of summer, if you work outside your body will never get used to it although you can accept it for short periods of time.

If you have a desk job or work inside then yes you get used to it because everything is air conditioned.

Mainly you just learn how to avoid being out in the sun during the summer time.

unless you are outside ... this is my first summer so far.... and whilst its already getting quite hot...you tend to stay in cold places... house with air con on and well get the engine in the car started a few minutes before you get into it so that the air con has a chance to kick start..... i too am not looking forward to July and August's temperatures specialy as i am pregnant due in july .... so i suffer evennnn more....used to the UK summers eheheeh ....

we all adapt at a certain point....just ensure you always have water with you no matter what

good luck and have a smooth move to doha :)

Whats the nature of your work?

If you will be working outdoors, you will struggle. If its a desk job then no worries.

You have to get used to the country where you are staying, ofcourse you will find it little hard but with time you will get used to it also you should be happy that every office(s) in qatar has airconditioner, your car has a/c, drink more water and fruit juices, keep a towel with you always when ever you sweat, use a moisturizer when you go out and for myself iam here since my birth and never felt any problem with the heat because got used to it and wear a cap when you go out and try to avoid going in the morning and afternoon time outside, evening you can go out and hence no worries

no issues if you have a desk job. but if you are to work at the construction sites, its difficult. but hey, all others can bare, why can't you?

We use the airconditioner a lot.

Field work is reduced to a minumum during peak summer and outdoor labour have their working hours adjusted, ie. I think they break from 11 to 1500hrs
