Most of the Indians send their children back home to pursue whatever academic courses they are interested in. Some even send to schools in Canada or UK or US for higher education.

As far as good Engineering schools in India are concerned, I have knowledge of only 1 though there are at least half a dozen more of equal or better calibre. This is the Manipal Inst. Of Technology in Udipi (Karnataka) and has hoards of Gulf Indians' kids study there. It costs quite a bit for a 4 or 5 yr course. But the hostel facilities are better than those of other engg colleges and the food is also better. Education facilities (lab etc) are also good.

thanks for your honest feedback. I agree that there is a risk of her being lost in different environment. we have not yet decided on her future plan, everything hinges upon marks she gets in 10th. but tried to provide her with best. she is sharp but lacks concentration. which is the good school for higher education (9th-12th). normally what people do after that. i heard that there is some NRI seats in good engineering institutions in india espeically for NRI gulf indians. any idea?

if things probably are not favourable, then we need to reconsider our decision.

apreciate honest ffedback

ps : i have sent a separate email to you, you can probably respond me there or on this.

Hi BuddyIndian well these are choices you have to make and it depends on your priorities. On one hand 9th is a cruical year and moving the child could cause problems like new environment/friends/missing friends at home etc due to which ur kid might go down on studies. And on the other hand you leaving the kid there could cause more problems if she's never stayed away from parents. The thing with moving schools in 9th is that kids would've already formed their study groups and she'll be the new kid and it will take some adjusting... do u really want her to struggle with the social life when she should be focusing on studies? What are your plans for her? Do you want her to prepare for any particular competitive exams like IIT JEE? Are you ok with sending her to other countries like UK or US? How is she as a student? I mean what are her interests? I know these questions are a little early for her but you shud have some idea on what path she should or could take. My advice is not to make any drastic changes in her life at this point of time.

To be frank, I wouldn't advice on moving a child in the 9th Grade to doha, unless she is ready to put in all the efforts that it takes on HER OWN to get thru the level of competition that thrives in India these days...

The level of Education in Qatar is nice, but not anywhere close to what it would take for the IITs, BITS...it takes a lot more, and its not that people from here dont get into it, but its your call, I would say not OK, but then if your daughter has got what it takes to take that EXTRA MILE, then I say dont bother about worrying about the change, cos for a student who can study, rather who wants to study, can do it anywhere...

There are Indian schools in Doha running CBSE courses uptil the 12 th grade. (I do not know about the ICSE schools though). You will find toppers and rank holders from them as well in the 12th Boards. But most of them, get additional academic material from India (when they go for vacations to India in summer or winter) to have the competitive edge. Coaching is available for subjects upto Grade 12, but coaching for competitive entrance tests back home is a different ball game altogether. Most of the students leave for India to get their coaching staying with their mums, or relatives or in PGs or Hostels during the time in India for coaching. There is no education in the Indian system beyond Class 12 here. However, distance learning programs are an option from here beyond class 12.
