HMC hospital, Qatar

Hi.... I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of working for Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar? I have questions such as, how are they as an employer? What's the male staff accommodation like? Is the hospital and staff accommodation central to Doha? Are staff looked after? Is the work secure? Any experiences / knowledge / tips would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

Dutemplar, if you have a fake degree and your medical license has been revoked in your own country , HMC is a perfect place. The game of HMC is that the employer will cheat you for money and housing and the employee will cheat them about qualification and competency.

With slightly mixed reviews, are any of you medics with HMC? Do you recommend looking there or elsewhere within the middle east? I saw Global Medical recruiting for HMC, roughly $100k base plus allowances and benefits.

Extensive background, US NREMTP, CCEMTP. My fiancee does not want me working as an 18D anymore and prefers me not going to do medic work with my friends Heckler & Koch...

Hi,

I would be joining HMC soon. Awaiting for my visa. How is it to work with them? Are you already working there?

Awaiting for your reply.

Regards,

Sam

This is very nice post that i found about HMC. Thanks everyone for your input.

I am in process where I just received Offer letter from HMC and I am in middle of debate to sign it or not. I have offer senior IT project mgr and going to move from USA. As i noticed that there were bad comments about being a Indian. Is that a true statement that they dont treat good to Indian people? or is it more depend on which job level you work. I guess all the comments was made where people are work at floor or with patients...

If you are desperate for money, HMC is the place. Racism is everywhere, especially when so many races are competing for the job. They are not nice people, but then who cares as long as you get right salary check at the end of the month. There is no particular disliking for Indians. But they do try to exploit Indians more than others as they feel Indians are more desperate than others.Remember few things. Don't expect any friendliness from anyone in that place. Never work more than your collegue. Never take any additional responsibility . Always pretend to be as stupid as other arab workers do because that's the best way of minimizing exploitation. And from day one be after housing dept to give you housing. If you are a Muslim, take Haj vacation at the first available opportunity. If you are a non-muslim, always pretend that you have lots of family responsibility & so frequently you have to take leave. But if you are single, then you are doomed.

My experience of Hamad and PHCC no good- Someon gave good advice , if you are not desperate DO NOT join these 2 organisations.

If you need the money then thats another matter.

If your SE asian, indian subcontinent, Palestinian, black, basically not caucasian , then youll be in for hard time. No progression, treated like a scivvy and oh yes, forget about human rights and equal treatment. It doesnt exist. I came to Islam few years back, but working/living out here has disappointed me and saddened me. Muslims supposed to be just, fair and spread equality amongst everyone. But Qatar is sucking up to my white brothers!!

ONE thing remember - you are treated like a slave, once you join the organisation you cant leave and move for a year!!

I've worked elsewhere and would expect it to be similar to other institutions in the Middle East.

No matter where you work, it'll never be perfect. I don't have any lofty expectations about my going to work there. It's a job. I'm gonna go and do my best and get paid while doing it.

Whether your in the U.S., Canada or Australia, if you're not happy you can always leave your post.

For what it's worth, I have a few friends working there for several years and they seem content.

It really boils down to what your expectations are!

Can anyone help me to know how to apply in HMC ?

the lowliest worker don't get housing and plane fare allowance. Accomodation would depend on 'connections' but generally for bachelors it's so-so. And to think HMC has an enormous budget which has since increased tremendously. If these moolah do not trickle down to the lowly workers where do you think it goes.

One of my cousin is surgeon in HMC, has very nice FF accommodation provided by HMC in the HMC colony. 10 mins walk to the main hospital building. In outside market it must have the worth of 12K QAR rent per month.

Upto some extent, racism is everywhere in ME. My cousin never reported any miss treatment due to racism though. They work in different teams and everyone share the equal load & night shifts.

Overall, HMC is a good employer for him so far.

If you are not desperate, stay away. If you are, I doubt that they can show you during the interview which accommodation they will assign for you once employed.

The accommodation is perhaps a couple of kilometers from the center of old Doha, probably four kilometers from West Bay. I have heard that they don't like to employ Indians but I don't know for sure. They move extremely slowly whenever I have any dealings with them. Don't respond to emails, never answer a direct question, and don't return calls. They don't permit staff to access Internet resources regardless of need for job. I would imagine the work is secure because they are definitiely not a popular employer. Getting "looked after" is relative. You will be better looked after than someone in a labor camp, not as well looked after as someone feeding from the SIDRA trough.

Totally agree with saptakalran. Have heard and read similar stories. The place thrives on racism.

HMC hospital is the worst place in qatar to be employed. you will be working like slave from the first day. It is full of local arabs who will make any expat do always the night shifts and weekend duties.
