I will be moving in a month to Doha, and I would like to buy a pet, in this case a cat, how easy is to buy it, how expensive could it be, and how expensive is the maintenance of it....food, vet, etc. thanks.

Thank you very much for all of your info, I will take the cat or cats with me for sure. I am not heartless.

It is a good idea about the 2 cats so they keep company when I work.

We will keep in touch.

Thanks again.

... from the Veterinary Surgery. I have 2 persians and one which used to be a streetcat and has grown into a lovely adult! You will need to spend no money to have a cat. You will be able to adopt a beautiful cat without any hassle - BUT be aware we will haunt you if you decide that this cat is only for keeps for the time you will be in Qatar! ;)... If you are gonna be working during the day I would strongly recommend that you adopt 2 cats. They will keep each other company. :)

Feel free to contact me when you arrive, I will help you with your new cat(s).

I got my cat from a pool party a couple of months back. We adopted him and took him to the vet for the necessary shots. Also had him neutured a couple of weeks back.

Check out in the streets first. There are a lot of homeless kitties out there that need a home. :) If and when we leave Qatar, the cat is coming with us.

I got one of my little treasures from the Qatar Vetinary centre. My other one came from a family who had taken in the pregnant mother. Both beautiful although just my every day moggies!

The animal shelter QAWS is the best place to adopt a kitten/cat.

Do you have a plan for taking the Cat Home? If you dont then do not buy one.

Your just mking problems for others when you leave.

The pet stores here are absolutely horrible torture chambers for ill animals. They are diseased to begin with and are held without food and water. I know, I know, the poor babies will stare at you pleadingly and you will want to buy them just to get them out of there but you will be encouraging these traffickers in misery. BTW, I got my full-blooded Persian kitty from QAWS. She had been abandoned in the middle of summer, probably by someone who found it inconvenient to board her during their vacation or were too stingy to take her when they went home. At that time she looked like something you'd scrape off your shoe. Now she's a gorgeous princess with (high maintenance) fur to the floor.

excellent, sounds good. But what if you want to buy a persian or something like that, but I totally agree in rescueing kitties from the street.

Thanks for your kind info.

Hey, MaxDan, welcome. No need to buy a cat here, there are more than enough free ones to go around! Every dumpster has a kitty, every compound has its share of cats who are looking for a home. You will have your choice. But you will need to spay or neuter your pet and keep up with their shots, etc. The vet's charges are about the same as they are anywhere else. Food and litter might be a little more since it's all imported.
