HSBC Qatar good?
By Think-Twice •
Hi,
I'll be moving to Doha for work and would like to use HSBC Qatar for my banking since I'm already using them in my home country.
Are those using their services in Qatar, may I check, are their services good and speedy? Are charges reasonable (it's expensive here)? Do they have extensive ATM? Do they pay interests for our saving? How about their premier a/c? Is it worth opening such a/c?
Thanks.

In 2003 I moved away from QNB to HSBC. QNB was very poor in customer service, they were poor communicators back then. The first 2 years I was with HSBC was great, the service was pro-active. Then the original professional staff started disappearing, replaced by people who don't know how to communicate with the customer. Customer service went from excellent to terrible. Posting errors keep affecting my account, disrupting my finances. From since 3 weeks back I have been chasing a missing QR3,000 from my account and I verified that they deducted a car loan twice in the same month. I never availed of any deferment of payment for any loan. A bank officer told me there was a system error sometime just before Eid Al-Adha, and I was not the only customer affected. She assured me all shall be corrected in 1 or 2 days. After 2 days I called her and she said she was "busy". 1 week later I went to see her again and tells me she was "busy". So I went to the branch manager's office who told me it will be resolved in 1 to 2 days. Another week passed - nothing was done. Therefore I advise those still choosing a bank to stay away from HSBC.And those who are still HSBC customers to regularly scrutinize your account to see if anything is missing.I am moving away from HSBC and taking my business somewhere else.
Cheers
"Hospitality Come From The Heart & Not D Mind." Well said.
Its 10.5 % plus the transaction fees of 2.5%..and then even if you do pay the amount early there is again a fine of 1% of the amount we are paying..They make sure that you are a dedicated customer of the bank until you leave qatar as a poor man..I think only the accountants in qatar are making money all the other professionals are losing money to the banks in the form of credit card fines and loan interests...lol.

HSBC in UAE is good. However its the worst bank in Qatar. The Customer Service just disconnects the line if they are unable to help you. They do not care about their customers only interested in high fees.

yes yes DaRuDe we know that you are Old and Famous......:D
psssst, better out the front than out the back......heheehehhehehhe
i like HSBC too.
i am happy to deal with them also.
I'm still sorting out my issue I had with one of their staff...bottomline, I'm keeping my account with them....
its the money thirsty bank. they put fees for everyting. if you have status account they treat you well but the treatment has a cost. there two things you should not do with hsbc qatar
openning an account
and put your atm card to habc atm both leads to sufferings
the old famous me :D

Hi action unltd,
Noted, your comments are like many of my friends' comments on HSBC HK. They say the bank's service is not good, with long queues. I personally find it ok, probably because I do most banking online.
Thanx for your reminder.

Hello all,
Thanx for the recommendation. I have a look at their website and it looks what I want. For money transfer Qatar -> overseas, how much do they charge? Have you had any experiences doing so?
Happy week Qatar / happy weekend HK.

e643 is right and they have narrow opening hours so i can only go on saturday mornings and sit and wait and wait.
i have been a customer for almost 4 yrs and i dont like them. i have removed most of my money and go in to remove my salary every two months. cancelled all my cards with them.
QNB is good because their opening hours are much more convenient.
also they have branches in shopping malls so parking isn't the big issues like hsbc.
check out their website.
they still have big queues in some branches......my friend went in took a ticket, went home, made her breakfast, ate, tidied up, drove back to QNB and still was in a queue - ha ha
but that is most banks here!
banks do islamic and non-islamic banking so u can do either.
i have a financial consultant who does my savings for me independent of any bank in qatar.
In common with Turkey and some other countries, HSBC is not actually HSBC as it is 51% owned by Qatar.
I am not saying it is not a good bank but be aware.
Hi Sanjeeve,
Thanx, I have looked at their website and status a/c seems suitable to me.
May I check, do they give interests to saving a/c? I was told that Islamic religion is against receiving interests, is it true? What is the current saving interest rate?
Thanx.

I don't like their fees. And finding parking if you're going into a branch is an absolute nightmare.
and till now, I still have no complaints...Customer service is good and the CSRs are courteous, finds time to listen to their clients and are open to comments and suggestions.
I used to bank with them bank home and service is the same.
In my opinion....
YEs they are very good in tying you up with fees, fines and more fees.
Hsbc qatar is ok. service is ok and fee of QAR 70 per month is reasonable. internet banking not bad at all.
not sure about premier account, status acc works well for me.
