Increase in Rents for Houses in Doha
I have received a letter from the firm managing the property where I live advising to raise the rental by 40%.What is the best way to deal with such a case. Further, I learn that the landlord has recently died.
Is there any law governing/controlling the increase in rent?
What is the remedy, if agent of the Landlord issues letter to raise hypothetically by 40% or so?
Absolutely. Is your rent in line with the current local market? There are too many factors. If the 40% pushes you over the local market, then negotiate with the new owner based on comparative local rental figures. If that doesn't work, give notice and leave if possible.
On the other hand....maybe he wants you to leave!
Depends on your rent in value terms not percentage. If Qar 2,000 per month then 40% not bad - perhaps the new landlord should increase it by 100% but if 10,000, then do as per the above solution provided.
Try to negotiate with your landlord according to your terms. And if he doesn't accept then give him a notice of 30 days to vacate the house and find accomodation at different area ..... Best of Luck !!!
This is what I would have done, if I was in same situation.
