does anyone know of the process, which companies to use for moving from London to Doha. In essence, we have the following items to move:

- Clothes
- Books (lots of them)
- Playstation
- Desktop computer
- Kitchen utenstils + small appliances like cutter, juicer, kettle, etc.
- and finally More clothes :)

About 2 months ago I said on this forum that I moved my goods with Eagle Relocations and I was quite happy with them so far.

We are supposed to move to Qatar on 15th Aug, and unfortunately I must withdraw my recommendation as we are absolutely NOT happy with how they are handling our goods since it left the UK. The goods are now delayed... :(

This is my personal experience though but since I started talking about this company, I would like it to be fair for others who are wondering about shipping agencies.

I got here last week and brought three suitcases for me. I had a moving allowance which I didn't even use a third of (but then I had to pay up front). Packed my desktop computer in(the box in one case and monitor in another)and it got here safely! So must of the space was for computer but still got loads of clothes in there.

When the wife comes over in about 6 weeks time she will probably only bring three suitcases, and she has a lot of clothes!

When we move into our new furnished place we will just buy any extra kitchen stuff or just buy the whole lot if the stuff there already is rubbish! Our kitchen stuff at home that special and we will probably throw it all out at Christmas when we clear the place so we can rent it out.

If you pay the extra to fly business class you get a much better luggage allowance plus join the frequent flyer programme to earn flight rewards!

Better/more comfortable flight plus greater luggage allowance at a price that is affordable.

Hi Londonlad,

Sorry I was really busy and stressed with everything!!

So here it is, my sister just moved to Singapore and she took her items with Eagle Relocations. She said she was very happy with them and that all went smoothly and the goods were intact and delivered and unpacked at her residence in Singapore.

I just signed with them for a full service and so far I am happy with the way they are handling my goods (a bit of a mix up at the beginning but the guys were very nice and helpful). My goods are supposed to leave end of June to be there when we arrive in August. I cross fingers all will be ok...

Here is the website: www.eaglerelocations.com

Hope this help,

And yes it would be very nice to catch up in Doha!

See you then,

Dione

Ben_130, you can put most stuff in to suitcases but depends what you want to bring, I brought over my TV, amp, PC, PS3 etc... i wouldn't put them in a suitcase, I've seen the way the airline staff throw suitcases about.

Cant you just put everything in loads of suitcases?! I have my flight out in three weeks with KLM and I can add another 10 suitcases on top of my standard one (23kg max). Yes 10 is expensive but I am looking at taking around 3/4. I am just trying to find out if and how I can pack up my desktop PC. Everything else can go in suitcases.

I get up to 8000QR relocation allowance which I can claim back once I arrive.

Hey Dione,

Let me know if you find some which is good. Its quite an interesting thing, people in similar situation. We should maintain contact in Doha as well, as it can be a very lonely place at times (I gathered, when I was there for a few days for interview).

Hi! I actually happened to be in the same situation as Londonlad.

My husband and I are moving to Doha. His school has recommended Qatar Airways Cargo or Emirates Cargo. But they are quite expensive.

We don't have much to pack (no furniture)and just like Londonlad, a couple of books, clothes, some kitchen utensils etc...

Could anyone recommend a relocation agency that is not too expensive but at the same time quite reliable?

Thanks in advance for your help, :)

Not even a single contact for moving stuff from London? Really?

I mean come on, is there anyone here from London who has moved to Doha. If yes, how did they move their stuff? which moving company did they use?

My company will be booking my flight out to Doha soon and I have an relocation allowance which is a decent amount. First thing I am going to do is phone the airline and see how much more I can take on my flight and for what cost.

I probably wont have as much as you, maybe two suitcases of clothes and my desktop computer and possibly my golf clubs!

Dont think I really need anymore. I can also wait until my wife moves over a couple of months later (as of course she will have tons more clothes to take than me)! then we can sort out a relocation company for the rest of my clothes, golf clubs etc.

Thanks mate.

Really appreciate if you can send me more details. Timing is not an issue, so I dont mind the delay therefore will go with cheaper option.

Also, would be nice to catchup when I am there.

Cheers

I used a company called ICM Gerson, certainly worth a look. The guy there who organised it all was Graham Horlser, really nice guy and makes the whole process as stress free as possible. Do you know whether you are going to be shipping things out by plane or boat as from memory this affects the price quite a lot (will no doubt depend on weight/volume as to which is most efficient... and how long you are willing to be without everything!)? If you need more details let me know and I can dig them out.
