Could you please let me know from which fingerprinting agency in Canada did you guys do it? I am currently in Qatar and was wondering whether I need to fly back to Canada to do this or not.
Thank you very much. You seem to know in detail. Yes, I got the clearance from RCMP (standard - they do not do VSS for employment outside canada). It took only 6 days. Then, got it authenticated by DFAT (JLAC) , ottawa which took only 6 days. Now, since I am in Canada, my employer has asked me to get it authenticated by Qatar Embassy in Ottawa.
No - the standard criminal check would suffice. However, the process is quite long and involves multiple authentications/attestations so keep that in mind when you are planning your move. The details are as follows:
Get the RCMP police clearance and not the local police clearance (this is very important) - it involves fingerprinting etc and is usually done at the local police station. Once you receive the clearance form, send it to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa for authentication - it is quicker if you are able to go there but they do it through mail as well (around 20 days). The authenticated police certificate has to be taken to the Canadian Embassy in West Bay (Doha) for attestation. This certificate, authenticated and attested, is then given to the Qatar authorities for final authentication - once done, it is ready for submission.
This could take over a month so keep that in mind when you are planning your move to Doha. Good Luck!
What does your employer say they require? So far as I know you only get one from the RSVP if they are your local policing authority, which happens in smaller towns sometimes

Well RCMP is the national police authority. I have emailed my employer. Let's see what they say.
That should be RCMP not RSVP
