QAWS fund raising concert

Good morning everyone, last night was yet another very successful event of Qatar Living. I was a pleasure to meet everyone once again. We can continue the chit chat that we all left over last night lol. But before that I was thinking about having a fund raiser for QAWS, something like a concert, I can try to arrange the band, all we need is a place. But lets talk about the idea of having a fund raising concert in the first place, what do you guys thing. Specially Scarlet and the team of QAWS. Will it be allrite to go public and promote QAWS? Because we can publish the event in the news paper. We could also look for sponsors who could help us, may be Qatar Foundation would be interested. This could also be a something to look forward to during the Eid holidays. Please shout out your ideas and opinions.

I was thinking something like this:

Live DJ with a mix of English, Arabic & Hindi songs
Introduction to QAWS
QAWS awareness presentation
Live performance by a band
Food / Dinner buffet kind
Pet adoption session
Pet Trivia (quiz session on pets)
Drawing contest for kids to draw their favorite pet
End credits
Live band to play a song at the end

KH who said anything about fund raising. My idea was more like selling tickets for the concert, that is not illegal and the money we get out of the tickets will be given to the QAWS, QAWS will not be mentioned. I don't know if QAWS can sponsor a concert or not, if that is possible then we can have a concert for QAWS awareness. Not for charity, just pure entertainment. But i dont know if that works or not. If we could arrange a concert organized by QAWS and say that they are offering us space to perform, I believe there wont be any harm.

thinking of it and what mis-cat mentioned, am afraid all such activities are illegal. whether you consider it public or private. any fund raising activity needs certain approvals.

just enlighting you so that no one would be in trouble or facing any questioing by the authorities

as usual, you have wonderful ideas...I just got so excited about how everyone last night was so interested in the plight of the animals here in Qatar.

You haven't heard anything from us QAWS folks because we were taking 6 dogs to the State vet this morning, in 3 cars...one of them got a bit carsick in mine(luckily she was in a travel kennel!) Then we grabbed a Coke and went home to eat lunch and were back at the kennels at 4 for more work. I have to tell you all that the amount of support you showed last night was amazing...and the food certainly helps!! There were some full dogs today, thanks to you all!!

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

You're right thexonic, there are ways round everything and if people want to do something they'll do it. You just have to be careful that whatever you do doesn't upset someone and ruin all the very, very hard work QAWS have already put in trying to gain charity status.

Mis-cat, dont worry hun, I understand what u r trying to say. U do have a valid point, something could be done about this problem and it can be resolved. The reason why I mentioned Qatar Foundation was because we did organize a fund raiser for Lebanon during the 2006 and a few members of the Royal family were a part of the audience. We managed to raise up to 27,000 riyals and they paid the same amount themselves.

Some other events like the soccer game between the Scottish and British community in Qatar were organized too, but I dont know if that event required a license or not. Either way things could be sorted out, may be something could be organized at garvy's, a friend of mine plays for the Exhiles, he knows people at garvys. I could check with him.

Please don't get me wrong as I think that what QAWS does deserve to be recognized, but due to the laws here, holding a simple event like a fund raiser is not that simple. So I urge everyone to get out there and sign the petition that will help QAWS become a recognized charity....

lol thexonic - Seems Mis-Cat was better than me at convincing you there'd be potential issues!

By thexonic• 20 Aug 2008 09:24

Fair enough, in that case it will be limited to a private event, news papers wont be involved. The place and all could be arranged, that wont be big of a problem.

We've spoken to one of the main hotels that does a lot of this sort of work and they would be interested and given us a few more leads to follow up on which we are trying to do...

You need a company to hold any event that takes money and makes a profit of any sort. Trust me when I say we have done a lot of ground work on this issue. I'm not saying it's not a good idea and QAWS was one of the organizations that we looked into but they don't have charity status yet so you could only hold the event as a private party and you can not with out a registered company ask people to pay for entry to make profit. All your initial cost would have to come out of your own pocket as hotels will only give their support if it is a charity and depending on the charity depends on how much support they will give you and a company will not be able to sponsor the event.

xonic.. better send a mail or pm.. when u want any help from my side... as miscat says.. u cant do it in QAWS name.. plus.. if its a big event u need to get an event license and have to check on with the resp. municipality for the charges etc...

By thexonic• 20 Aug 2008 09:08
thexonic

Mis-cat, you see thats the difference, this wont be a charity event, there wont be funds given to anyone, it will be concert, where people would pay an entrance fee to watch the concert, what we (organizers) do with that money is up to us. We will just be promoting the QAWS, its like advertising for them. That's y i said its different from what Khanan said. I dont think we need any permission to do a concert. In other words this concert will be to aware the people of the stray animals and to help them by giving them awareness.

you have to be careful in doing this QAWS is not a charitable foundation and are limited to what assistance they can ask from the public. If you want to do a fund raiser then you can't ask for sponsorship that goes into the area of charity. Ksa and I have been looking into it as Khanan said we have spoken to some people who have done this thing before and to have an event that is sponsored you need to have a registered charity, I'm afraid, so any thing you orginize for a fund raiser the initial cost has to come from your own pocket.

Good morning to you too,

Well gala dinner would be a charity event, a concert would be a fund raiser. It's a completely different thing buddy. A concert would be an entertaining event for everyone.

I'm sure they'll be grateful for your enthusiasm, but make sure you run it past the QAWS people first. You have to be careful with fundraising events because they're not a charity. They also like to be careful about what publicity they get in case anything jeopardises their status.
